The Ten Commandments of Linking

By Glenn Canady “Gorilla Website Marketing” http://www.gorillawebsitemarketing.com

I’ve been teaching peoplerepparttar virtues of linkingrepparttar 108917 right way for a long time in my book, “Gorilla Website Marketing”. However, there are many people out there that just haven’t got it figured out yet. It seems that we are inrepparttar 108918 middle of a “linking crisis” and it’s time that I did my part in helping to stop it before it gets out of hand!

Right now, I’m getting about 20 link requests a day from webmasters that haven’t a clue aboutrepparttar 108919 right way to link! So I decided to writerepparttar 108920 “Ten Commandments of Linking” to cover allrepparttar 108921 basics for effective linking. If somebody told you to read this article, you just might be violating one of them! If you are, don’t worry about it, you’re not going to go to hell or anything. But you might just get banned on Google and that’s almost worse than going to hell! Your website’s search engine rankings and traffic ALWAYS go up when you do linking right so study them carefully and figure out if you’re doing anything wrong!

The Commandments

#1) Thou Shall Always Put Up A Link BEFORE Asking For A Link

Putting up a link to someone before you ask them for a link is proper linking etiquette and is much more effective thanrepparttar 108922 alternative. If you’re going to ask somebody for a link then don’t waste their time unless you’ve already linked to them. This shows that you are serious about linking with their site and haven’t just spammedrepparttar 108923 universe asking for links! And if you tell somebody that you’ve linked to them, be sure that you really have. Otherwise, you’ve just lost your credibility. Byrepparttar 108924 way, always tell your prospective link partner exactly how to link to your site. I do this on all my sites. For an example of how I do this, just go to one of my link info page here: http://www.5starshine.com/linkinfo.html

#2) Thou Shall Not Build Link Farms

I’m seeing this commandment being violated more allrepparttar 108925 time. Some people are in such a rush to get links that they try to link to EVERYBODY. They don’t have any type of cohesive theme to their link directories. They are just a mish mash of totally unrelated websites thrown together – in other words a “link farm”!

Think aboutrepparttar 108926 types of sites you want to link with and build a useful directory that is complementary to what you are offering. For example, my website, 5 Star Shine, sells a unique type of car wax that lasts for 5 years. If you look at my Automotive Link Directory on this website, you’ll notice that I have built a nice directory about anything related to cars. Since I sell a car related product, repparttar 108927 people that will find useful information in my directory are also a great source of potential customers. I’m building a useful resource and that’s why I’ve been so successful with this directory. Pick some kind of a niche that is complementary to what you are offering and build a great themed directory. For example, if you sell merchandise, you might build a gift directory. That’s what I did with my website, 5 Star Closeouts. Sincerepparttar 108928 people that are in my “gift directory” on this site are also potential buyers of my closeout merchandise, it’s a great way to build a useful resource AND let potential customers know about my website. This seems to be working really well.

#3) Thou Shall Not Hide Thy Link Directory!

This one really makes me want to smite somebody! Some guy will ask you for a link, but when you go to his home page, you look around for 10 minutes and can’t find a way to get to his link area from there. Most of these jokers are just trying to be sneaky and not let their customers ever findrepparttar 108929 link directory. My general rule is that I require a link torepparttar 108930 link directory be prominently displayed onrepparttar 108931 home page. If I can’t find it in 15 seconds or less, chances are nobody else will and it’s of no value to me!

#4) Thou Shall Have No More Than 50 Links On One page.

Actually, 50 links on one page is really pushing it in my opinion. If you have more than 50 links on one page then you are doing something wrong. Google now ignores most web pages that contain more than about 50 links because many are just link farms. When I seerepparttar 108932 4th Commandment being broken, it’s usually because somebody is trying to have just one page of links. Of course, there usually violatingrepparttar 108933 2nd commandment also becauserepparttar 108934 site is usually a link farm too! It’s very important that your links are broken up into relevant categories and that each one isn’t over 50 links. To do this properly, you can use a program like Zeus to organize your links properly. This isrepparttar 108935 program that I use on all my sites and it’s beenrepparttar 108936 key for my own number one rankings. If you’d like a discount on Zeus, be sure to get a Gorilla Marketing membership at http://www.gorillawebsitemarketing.com/membership.html

Why are so many, making so little?

Written by jim Peters

Wherever you look on-line, you'll find thousands promoting online businesses, but ask them, and if their honest enough to tellrepparttar truth, you will find that more than 99% of them have yet to make a penny! I would like to take some of your valuable time and try to save you, even more of it. The subject! Why are so many, making so little?

One ofrepparttar 108916 main reasons, is that there are just so many Affiliate programs, Associate programs, MLM's, and Dealer ship programs, being touted everywhere you look, it is next to impossible to find a program that can actually produce what it's promoters say it will.

There seems to be little protection in place from dishonest promoters and con men. That is not to say all ofrepparttar 108917 programs available are dishonest. There are hundreds if not thousands of very viable programs available. The problem that we face is sortingrepparttar 108918 wheat fromrepparttar 108919 chaff.

The tendency seems to be, even withrepparttar 108920 legitimate programs, to stretchrepparttar 108921 truth inrepparttar 108922 effort to get you to sign-up in their program.

The proof is inrepparttar 108923 pudding. What isrepparttar 108924 first thing that happens when you join one of these programs? They send you to a site filled with promotional tools. There you find letters to send out and ads to post tellingrepparttar 108925 recipients how greatrepparttar 108926 program is and how much money your making. When in reality you haven't made a cent.

What induced you to join that program inrepparttar 108927 first place. You read one ofrepparttar 108928 same e-mail's you just finished sending or one of those ads you just posted to 10,000 FFA sites. Telling you how easy it is to get in and begin making money. How much money is being made and how it'srepparttar 108929 only program making real money onrepparttar 108930 internet.

While in reality that e-mail or classified was from someone just like you that readrepparttar 108931 same ad or e-mail. None of whom has actually made a dime withrepparttar 108932 program.

You'll hear phrases like, "the best system for building profit" "automatic business building system" or "Make thousands fromrepparttar 108933 comfort of your living room"

The above scenario is being repeated over and over ever minute onrepparttar 108934 Internet.

OK!!! Am I saying there is no money to be made onrepparttar 108935 internet?

Absolutely not!!

I'm saying that if your intent is to build an Internet business you will need to go about itrepparttar 108936 same way you would any other enterprise.

The only real difference is location, dress, and accessibility to millions of customers. What is he saying?, your asking yourself. Everything we have been told tells us that having an on-line business is an effortless mindless way to become rich over-night.

In reality if you look past allrepparttar 108937 hype and grandiose projections, operating an Internet business takes just as much time and effort as any off-line business. That is, if you want it to be successful.

So what's allrepparttar 108938 commotion about? That's whererepparttar 108939 location, dress, and accessibility to millions of customers comes into play.

Operating an Internet business allows yourepparttar 108940 comfort and convenience of doing business from whatever location you choose, and in whatever mode of dress you choose. The crowning jewel though, is that it gives you unlimited access to a customer base of hundreds of millions all overrepparttar 108941 world. Tell me any off-line business that can claimrepparttar 108942 same.

OK, OK, So tell us who's makingrepparttar 108943 money and how they're doing it!

There are those out sitting by their pool or on a beach inrepparttar 108944 Bahama's with their lap top, running very successful on-line businesses.

How are they doing it, and what do they know that we don't? It's no big secret, repparttar 108945 tools for success online have been around much longer thanrepparttar 108946 Internet itself.

The first thing they did was to put on blinders when it comes to allrepparttar 108947 hype! They are smart enough to realize that it will take just as much effort and time to build an online business as it does an off-line business.
