TIPS FOR LAWYERS: Creating Effective Habits in the New Year.

Written by Jatrine Bentsi-Enchill, J.D., CPCC

It's that time of year where we all feel enormous pressure to make resolutions for personal and professional improvement. Lawyers are no exception! The problem is too often we setrepparttar new goals without a real plan of how we're going to avoid reverting to our old habits!

Habits can be a friend or foe. Think of a habit as a pattern of behavior. Successful habits can help us to achieve success, while other habits undermine our efforts to achieve.

Here is a great exercise for getting rid of old habits and replacing them with habits designed to help you to more effectively achieve your objectives.

STEP ONE: List 3 or more habits that are currently holding you back from achieving your goals and describe how these habits negatively impact your life. EXAMPLE:

Habit: Spend too much time on socializing duringrepparttar 107060 work day.

Impact: Always playing catch up in order to meet deadlines causing everyone to stress out. Makes me seem unprofessional and unfocused.

STEP TWO List successful habits you will choose to adopt in place ofrepparttar 107061 "bad" habits andrepparttar 107062 benefits of adoptingrepparttar 107063 new habit

The Blame Game!

Written by Jonathan R Taylor

In talking with people many times, it’s very evident that determinism is deeply imbedded in our present day culture. Too often I notice that people blame circumstances or others for their problems. This past election, I heard people in both political parties expressrepparttar doom and gloom that would come if either ofrepparttar 107059 two candidates were elected. I even heard that it wasrepparttar 107060 candidates themselves who were going to be responsible for creating more jobs! As ifrepparttar 107061 government manufactures jobs for people. The fact is that job growth happens when there is less government restriction. This kind of “blame game” mentality is becoming more prevalent than ever.

We’ve all playedrepparttar 107062 blame game a time or two. The job we didn’t get becauserepparttar 107063 interviewer was out to get us, orrepparttar 107064 relationship that didn’t work out becauserepparttar 107065 other person had problems, and how aboutrepparttar 107066 business that failed because customers wouldn’t pay on time orrepparttar 107067 bank wouldn’t approve that loan. The fact is, we’ve all fallen intorepparttar 107068 trap of putting responsibility on others forrepparttar 107069 disappointments we’ve suffered in life. I’m not saying that we can control everything in life that happens to us. There are certainly circumstances that are often out of our control. These are just part of life’s trials that God puts us through at times. What we do have, is control over how we react to those unfortunate events.
