Making the most of your time - Fishing Safety rules everyone should knowWritten by Rebecca Blain
By Rebecca Blain of http://www.discount-hunting-supplies-and-tips.comWhen you are going fishing, whether nearby your home or on a long distance trip, there are many fishing safety rules that you need to keep in mind. These rules can help prevent injury to yourself and others while shore and boat fishing. There are several different areas of fishing safety that you should be aware of. These include following: - Equipment Safety
- Pier Fishing Safety
- Offshore Fishing Safety
- Shore Fishing Safety and Noodling
- Ice Fishing Safety
Equipment Safety Before you go fishing, you need to make certain that all of your equipment is in safe working order. This should be done before you even consider going out to any waterfront. You need to check several things while looking over your various pieces of equipment. First, you need to check your fishing rod and reel. Both of these pieces should be in top condition, with rod having no cracks or breaks. If your rod separates, you need to make certain that it is very secure when it is built together. The reel itself should operate smoothly, with line coiling without tangles. If line is tangling quite a bit within reel, you will need to unbind line and replace it with new. If this behavior continues, you should consider a new reel. The type of line that you use should be a consideration as well. Dependent on conditions you are going to be fishing in, you will want to use different line. With rocky bottoms, where your line is going to get caught easier, you will want to use a lower line rating. If you are fishing for larger fish, test on line should be increased to match what you are planning on catching. The final fishing safety check that you should make is on your tackle, sinkers and lures. If any of these are rusted, you should replace them with new ones, as rusted equipment can change a mild injury into tetnis or a worse illness. Pier Fishing Safety One type of fishing that many people enjoy is pier fishing. When you go fishing off of a pier, there are several fishing safety rules that you should keep in mind. First, you should only place your feet into water if you know that there are not vicious fish, such as Muskie, in water. Muskie, as well as other types of vicious fish, are renown for biting off toes of unsuspecting fishers off of piers. For this reason, you should avoid doing this. In addition to this, you should never run on piers, especially if you are carrying any sharp equipment. The most important thing to keep in mind when pier fishing is to use your common sense. Falling from pier, especially taller ones, can be life threatening. Leaning over pier edge, as well as being careless, can put yourself and others in danger. Offshore Fishing Safety When you go on a boat for a session of offshore fishing, you need to be extra careful. Out of all of forms of fishing, this is most dangerous. You need to be aware of weather and potential weather changes at all times. In addition to this, you need to make certain that you are always wearing a life preserver. While these may be uncomfortable, or ugly to wear, they can make difference between life and death. You should always make certain that you know you do not hit anyone with your hook when you are casting. This is most dangerous aspect of offshore fishing, as you are most likely fishing in close quarters, which requires a higher level of skill when you are casting. Hooking yourself or a companion is a real likely hood in this style of fishing, unless you are extremely careful.
| | What started it all - the History of VolleyballWritten by Rebecca Blain
By Rebecca Blain of http://www.everything-volleyball.com Surprisingly, one of most well loved sports in world is also relatively young. Despite game's youth, it has gone through a wide variety of changes and evolution as a part of its rich history. Believe it or not, but at one time there wasn't Asics or Nike women's volleyball shoes or even volleyball uniforms for sale anywhere, let alone online! To fully understand and appreciate how much game has changed and how much work was put into to make it successful, you need to search back to very origin of Volleyball, and study when and why changes were made. Just over 100 years ago, in 1895, William G. Morgan developed first game of Volleyball. At time, Morgan dubbed game "Mintonette". "Mintonette" was created for business men as a game that involved less physical contact at chapter of YMCA where he worked at in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Morgan borrowed aspects from several games to create his own game. The first aspect was from tennis, borrowing net. Instead of standard net, however, he raised it to be 6 foot 6 inches high, so it was just over heads of average men. Other sports he borrowed from include basketball, baseball and handball. During one of demonstration games of sport, one of spectators commented game was more about volleying, and games name was changed to Volleyball. That was only beginning. In 1896, first official game of Volleyball was played at Springfield College. This game signified first real take-off of sport, and led into further games being played at a variety of different Colleges. In year 1900, Volleyball had taken off enough where a special ball was designed just for game. Another feat also accomplished in 1900 was that YMCA took sport from America to Canada, Orient and southern hemisphere. Five years later, Volleyball also spread to Cuba. This spreading was what signified start of Volleyball era. Unlike most sports, Volleyball moved International in its early days, allowing for game to evolve to meet players needs world wide. In 1907, Volleyball received its first recognition of being one of most popular sports at Playground of America convention. This was first recognition sport received, and helped to further its popularity. In following ten years, YMCA continued to spread sport to Brazil, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. In 1913, first official Volleyball competition was held in Far Eastern Games. 1916 saw Volleyball have its first true evolution. In Philippines, set and spike offensive pass was introduced, and game play was altered to involve this new form. The Filipinos developed "bomba", which is kill, and named hitter "bomberino". In this same year, NCAA was invited by YMCA to alter rules of game, and it was initiated into Colleges and other schools as a part of standard physical education courses and intramural programs. A year later, scoring system was also adjusted so that a game ended after 15 points instead of 21. This allowed more games to be played within same span of time, in an attempt to make sessions a little shorter for players.
