Making Money On The InternetWritten by Trina L.C. Schiller
I've got my computer hooked up to Internet, now let money pour in! What a silly sounding thought, but one that many people take a great deal of stock in these days. It would seem that many, many people have idea that all they have to do to generate an income from home is to get online, join this, that, or other thing and PRESTO! Cha-ching!However, more often than not, these people shut down their computers at night, having spent much more than they have earned. Why...? This, 'spend more, make none,' syndrome is so very prevelant because people expect something for nothing, and in cyberspace, as in real world, 0 + 0 = 0. The Internet does not guarantee business success. All it does is provide individuals with opportunity to start a business with a much lower overhead than in real world. If you've got no head for a brick and mortar business, chances are that you aren't going to be any more successful building a business online. The reality is that you cannot just join a program, hang out a shingle and expect money to roll in. And it doesn't matter what program you join, or how many programs you join. Building and maintaining a business is a skill that must be learned. Most of gurus of today have been successful off line, prior to experiencing online glory. What they have done is to take their skills from real world and apply them to realm of Internet. Therefore, if you have no off line skills to bring to Internet, you'd better get some. There's a lot more competition out here. Another cause for shutting down broke each day is that a great many people spend their time online, joining every program that sounds good. They spend all their money on monthly memberships to every program under sun, and have nothing left over to actually run business with. TIP: When someone calls you asking about your business, you should never have to answer with, "Which one?" Aside from scope of retailing informational products, it is best to choose a business, a single company, and work it! It is perfectly fine to have a business portfolio, including a few different interests, but to belong to and pay into everything you can get your hands on is ridiculous. How can you possibly learn everything you should know about each business, and what possible help are you going to be to your associates? There are just not enough hours in day to make it work. (Unless you have created a clone, in which case, we need to talk.)
| | How secure do you feel at your jobWritten by Jim Heim
We are all familiar with term “corporate restructure” in this day and age. Do you ever think one will ever personally affect you? After being employed by a major Midwestern retail chain for 28 years I didn’t think so. I started working for them in college; you know to get through school. I was studying management so it was only natural to get involved in their management program there. After graduating I was offered a position that required moving. No questions ask, my wife and I packed up everything we owned, left our families and pursued American dream. After 25 years in management, working in 3 cities at 5 different locations I had slipped into that false sense of security. Then those meetings started about how company was going to transform. “Big” competition was moving into area company operated in, there had to be changes to survive and “move forward”. The restructure inevitably meant cuts in overhead which of course translate into staff reduction. It was early in January, after a successful Christmas selling season, that tension really began to build. Changes in wind were blowing strong now. All management personnel were to attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday. At this meeting a sketchy outline was given of new direction company was taking. We were thanked for our efforts in seeing company through its best year ever. Then just as we were to be excused we were informed that over next two days each of us would meet with store manager to find out our part, if any in changes. The next day was day I had my appointment. I entered store manager’s office and sat down. Not 10 seconds after that I knew of my fate, “as you know company is restricting” manager said. He continued “your position has been eliminated, you will be ask to leave after this meeting”. I was astounded that after all time and dedication I had poured into company I was “being eliminated”!
