Where density of pile affects how it will wear, cut of pile affects in how it looks. A plush cut carpet looks like a field of velvet with very even color and is great for a formal look. A Saxony cut has irregular cuts of pile, and is great for an everyday look. Frieze is a nubby twisted pile, less formal looking but will wear well.

When buying carpet, don’t ignore carpet pad. In addition to going for best quality carpet you can afford, you should also buy best quality pad. The padding will cut down on noise and act as a cushion so it is as important as carpet. Make sure, however that you get right pad for type of carpet you are buying as thicker is not always better.

Don’t skimp on your flooring budget – cheap flooring won’t last long and won’t look as good. In long run buying quality flooring will save you since it will last longer. One way to insure you never get bored with your flooring is to choose a neutral tile or hardwood floor and decorate with accent rugs. You can change rugs out per season, or when you get bored with others and you don’t have to worry if one gets stained as they are easy to replace.
