Just One Small Slice of Media PublicityWritten by John Calder
Continued from page 1
You see, those of us who work online all day are accustomed to using Internet for just about everything. A large portion of our desired market searches on random impulse generated by some outside stimulus. This stimulus can originate from a news story, a new song on radio, a magazine advertisement or even a subject of interest overheard in conversation. The Holistic Approach My intent is not to sway your favor towards one avenue of marketing over another. Instead, I offer you a challenge: take time to examine interrelationships among all forms of media. In fact, just pick a subject (or product) of interest and follow its path through chain of publicity. For example, when someone sends you a referral to a new web site, ask them how they found out about that site. Did they stumble across it via search engines or does site already have a viral tool in place to generate leads? If site does have a viral tool in place, how did they generate their first visitors to trigger that flood? Do they have a pay per click campaign running? Did they send out a press release? Place a small ad in back of a magazine? Just put on your detective hat and reverse engineer these paths. Inevitably, you will discover small streams of exposure which lead to flood.

Continued from page 1 your website. I say this because it would reason that website you create does have some interest to you or you would not have created it. As creator of website, you have some authority over what is being read there; and, as long as you are honest about where you get supporting information, copyright protection for author and yourself, you will start to build a wealth of original content for your current website and future websites. This endeavor will also provide you with a complete index of ad copy, words you can use in your advertising. The best free advertising is to write an article and post it to numerous ezines, magazines, newspapers, or publication needing content. If you have time to create a website and then spend time linking with complimentary websites (websites that sell products that would go well with products that you sell, i.e. gift store website with a card store website), then you have time—that same time spent linking—to write a simple article about something you learned, such as this article that you are reading right now, and post it to multiple websites that need content. First, of course, find a way to get that content onto your website for your customers and then put article out as advertisement to draw new customers to your website. If linking is not bringing in an enormous amount of targeted customer traffic, then why not give your writing skills a try? It could not hurt! Written by eRix © 2004-08-26
