As a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, I take a different approach to treatment and prevention of headaches. After a thorough neurological examination I determine which part of nervous system is not functioning properly. In many headache patients I may find a high mesencephalic output. There are three parts to brain stem: top, middle and lower. The mesencephalon is top part of brain stem. A high output of mesencephalon will cause an increased pulse and heart rate, inability to sleep, or a waking, fitful sleep. Other symptoms might include urinary tract infections, increased warmth and sweating, and sensitivity to light. Along with a high mesencephalic output, headache patient may present with a decreased output of cerebellum. The cerebellum controls coordinated movement and all of muscles of spinal column. No matter what condition, it is imperative that chiropractic neurologist performs a thorough and comprehensive exam to determine exact nature of patient’s condition.

The latest research suggests lack of activation can affect brain’s ability to process information. Therefore, abnormal signals are misinterpreted by brain cells, therefore messages can get jumbled. Fortunately, non-pharmaceutically based treatments are now available and are effective for lasting long term results. These treatment modalities are available at Apple Medical Clinic. Treatment for each patient is individualized. Some of treatments could include auditory or visual stimulation, calorics (warm or cold water in ear), eye exercises, visual imagery, or spin therapy. Prior to any treatment at Apple Medical Clinic, a comprehensive exam is performed. The purpose of comprehensive exam at Apple Medical Clinic is to identify areas of decreased activity of brain, brainstem, cerebellum, spinal cord and nerves. Problems in these areas can result in other systems away from head and neck to be affected. The exam will cover patients from head to toe to ensure we assess and then treat patient in most appropriate and thorough manner.
