The hotel’s chef hosts for Metro Men a two hour tasting meal, including cooking with wine lessons and mixology instructions (carbtails for me!). The makeover continues with a grooming session involving manicure, pedicure, haircut, shave, sports facial, and a hot waxing for back and eyebrows; deluxe package includes a dental bleaching and consultation with a nutritionist and Saks Fifth Avenue personal trainer for those long shopping stints on Rodeo Drive or at Century City malls.

The best rooms in Loews Beverly Hills Hotel are above sixth floor because you have panoramic views of Hollywood Hills. Every room has a private terrace and you have specialized business services with something called Star Service. The elevators are prompted to these upper level rooms when you slide your plastic room key into swiping slot. These floors are Metrosexually approved, I am sure.

In-room amenities include: TempurPedic pressure relieving Swedish mattresses, a TV with video, cable, and pay-per-view, two-line telephones with voice mail, high speed internet access (bring your laptop), desk, coffee maker, minibar, in-room safe, and customized amenities.

The heated outdoor swimming pool and cabana area is popular in afternoon, sweetly located off new revamped restaurant for quick drink and café orders. Pets are welcome in hotel, but I must admit that guest cooling off his bowser in pool was something more akin to beach.

For rooftop parties and dining Studio 360, also billed as Ballroom, accommodates up to 200 guests.

Dining is always a treat at any of Loews that I have experienced, including one in DC and San Diego, and Beverly Hills Loews is burnishing same standard with full signature dinner with cocktails, such as Governor (give me an Arnold?) and Money Martini.

Dim lighting proves a perfect romantic treat for my fiancée and myself. There are only a few tables to each room and quiet melodies of blues chirp from speakers in corners as we taste blackened chicken, Cajun shrimp, bean soup, warm bread, and a banana dessert that is presented in front of us by chef. He shuts off lights to exaggerate lit brandy; he spouts entertaining ghost stories about old house.

The Inn sits at 3000 feet above sea level and that night an amazing thunderstorm strikes, and at that elevation each roll of thunder shakes very screws and nails that hold building together. What an electrifying experience.

We rise to smell of an all out buffet style breakfast and watch sun fight fog back into mountains and cast shadows on still wet porch.

Tennessee State Atlas & Gazetteer Since arriving, Watauga Lake has me curious, and I hear rumors about its transparent waters and terrific scenery. We schedule an appointment with owner of Fish Springs Marina and we are riding in a pontoon boat a few hours later. The water spins in a seltzer-like whirlpool underneath boat as we speed off in a hunt for old town of Butler, Tennessee.

The jailhouse is nearly visible at over one hundred feet below surface of crystalline water, and it is a churning, bubbly remnant of a city long since moved up mountain. A few other buildings that government decided not to tear down swim under third cleanest (manmade) lake held back by one of world’s largest earthen dams.

“I’m not sure where we heard that from,” owner of Fish Springs Marina tells us, after he decides to take afternoon off and join us on a tour of majestic body of water. It is as if we are peering into a million gallon fish tank.
