Decorating a Guest BedroomWritten by Joey Lewitin

After you have settled on bed you have to fill in furniture. If room doubles as something else, such as a gym, you will have to work around that. A traditional guest room will contain a set of drawers, and a small table. Additionally you can add TV stands, plant stands, or desks, if you have room. Think of a hotel. They provide just enough to make a person feel comfortable, but they are sure never to clutter room. For ambience you can add lamps and different lighting. Lighting is a decoration on its own that is much understated. A floor or desk lamp can provide both light and décor. Adding a television or a radio is also a nice touch if it’s in budget. These items can be used even when room is unoccupied, as a way to relax in a secluded setting. The finishing décor touches should be small. Any artwork placed in room should be restrained, don’t force extreme tastes on others. Impressionistic prints are often right touch to complete room. Wall clocks or desk clocks are also a nice way to make a room feel more comfortable. Decorating a guest room is fairly uncomplicated. You want to provide just enough so that person in room is comfortable, without overloading them with your decoration. Just remember to keep it simple, and you should be able to design a room that will make it hard for you to get your houseguests to go.

When you are ready get as many samples as you can. Match color swatches to fabric, hold pictures of different furnishings up against different colors, try out carpets and be sure that you feel comfortable with everything. Don’t agonize; important thing is to have fun. When you have fun your mind relaxes and works better, it pulls information from different places and creates impressions that make up your artistic insides. Listen to your instincts, and test everything. When it is time to actually decorate, use room as a canvas. Place items and hues into room carefully, judging their effect on rest of space. If you have to, throw some things out. You can even start over. The important thing is satisfaction you get as you apply your décor. When you are done you may feel unsatisfied. Finish project, and then walk away. Try not to dwell on it for a week at least. When you return you will see more clearly. Then you will be able to judge your work. Be gentle, this is not a contest. This is about you being comfortable and happy. If you aren’t, change things. Even if you are, it is good to think of decorating as a constant work in progress. One day something belongs here, another it belongs somewhere else. Only you can tell where it needs to be. Experiment and have fun, and things will turn out beautiful.
