The general look and color combination of your website should be pleasing and related to interests of your visitors however, areas devoted to text should not strain their eyes. As an example, I was at a hardware forum and somebody had written a couple of bright fluorescent orange lines on a medium gray background; it was about all I could take! Just looking at 2 lines of text to read them was painful.

Another example of a bad choice for body copy is a dark font over a dark background because it overtaxes eyes to make out text. The same reason absolute white is harmful applies to white lettering over a black background.

White without a small amount of compensating color is very stressful on eyes. If you ever spend any time at a website that causes such irritation, you'll lose focus and get tired on account of strain of reading.

All elements of your website decoration should conspire to make visit a pleasant one for your customers. Designing and building a successful website should take into consideration all design elements to keep from physically irritating your visitors.

A stand alone sales promotion campaign that leads your customer to a hard-sales website, is doomed to failure! All previous reasons should convince you a turnkey website is a terrible idea as your first Web effort.

That isn't to say it isn't good for some purposes! Used as a sales landing page, once your customer has been pre-sold, is an excellent use for it. Matter of fact, some of them have very effective sales copy and will do job nicely.

Of course, comparing sales effectiveness of pre- selling versus pre-packaged has left out most glaring reason for building your own website: You and your personal style and experiences! You have unique qualities that will be reflected onto anything you do; all people, places and feelings that have contributed to making you a one-of-a-kind individual!

All this should go a long way to convince you to build your own website. With so many copycat sites in every corner of web, your website will be a smashing refreshment from cookie cutter approach.

Your originality will be remembered and identify you as a unique and creative individual. The total design and vision of your website will convey ideas that a trainload of turnkey sites can only hope for!
