Why a Self Help Book May Not Help You

Written by Wendy Owen

For a self help book to work, we have to read right it through torepparttar end. While this may seem like a no-brainer, many people never finish reading books that they buy. In fact many people never read a book after they finish high school.

The next step after reading, is to re-readrepparttar 145099 important parts and then start doingrepparttar 145100 exercises – probably every day!

Self help books can give us great information but we actually have to put that information to good use….. (sigh)

Ah well! If we don't have time for a book, how about a tape or CD while we're driving inrepparttar 145101 car?

Now that sounds like a good idea It's called *time management*. We can do two things at once! We can listen betweenrepparttar 145102 news bulletins, while watching out forrepparttar 145103 speed cameras or when drivingrepparttar 145104 kids to school (Mum do we have to listen to that again?)

Or we can prance round all day chanting affirmations, telling ourselves we are prosperous and abundant and how our business is improving . Trouble is we don't really believe it do we?

Or how about sticking little notes on allrepparttar 145105 mirrors in our house proclaiming how we are losing weight and getting better and better every day, repparttar 145106 kind we have to rush around removing when visitors call....

I'm not saying these things don't work, they can and sometimes they do. There's some great motivational books, tapes and CDs out there and they're helping people allrepparttar 145107 time. The problem isrepparttar 145108 majority of us are simply not gettingrepparttar 145109 required results.

Motivation and goal settings –The to do list.

What is it that you need to do in order to be successful in your endeavor? One way to find out is to write a daily "To do list". This "To do list" will supplement your goal settings. It will simplify yours steps towards achieving your long term goal(s).

You can write your "To do list" while having breakfast or perhaps before going to bedrepparttar night before. TIP: Writing a list before you go to bed not only will appease your mind for a good night sleep but will also start your day with a purpose (this isrepparttar 145042 motivation part!)

Example: The goal I will be working on forrepparttar 145043 next 3 weeks (it is said that it takes that long to change a habit, good or bad!), will be to regularly organize my home office (always a problem!).

This isrepparttar 145044 list I would writerepparttar 145045 night before (keeping in mind my main goal)

  • Pick up dry cleaning
  • Renew house insurance
  • Phone Jim re: B-day party
  • Mail out monthly invoice
  • Archive file folder starting with letter A to C (if my goal would have been to lose a few pounds, I might have written go for a 20 min. walk or jog etc.)

The more specific your daily listrepparttar 145046 greater you will achieve. Make it achievable not unreachable, thusrepparttar 145047 daily "To do list", to break down your goal into smaller steps. Keep it Simple yet Meaningful till you reach your goal.
