Why Detoxify?Written by Yvonne Finn
Why Detoxify? Have you been hearing about detoxification more often? That's because we are now recognizing and appreciating that our bodies are not just separate parts, but a connected system which must be in "balance" if we are to feel and be well.So what is detoxifying? Well, it is an internal cleansing of toxins, from our bodies. These are toxins that we either produce, ingests or absorb. Our bodies produce toxins as it goes about it's regular daily functioning and when our system is working properly these toxins will be eliminated efficiently. But very few of us have systems that are so well balanced, anymore. We are not eating properly, we don't get enough rest or exercise. So, our bodies don't function as smoothly as they should. We absorb toxins from air as we breathe in pollutants from chemicals. Normally body can neutralize and eliminate these. But as levels of these toxins get increasingly higher, our bodies become over-whelmed and can no longer keep up. This is why we detoxify! Detoxification is a process and can be a gentle cleansing or a more rigorous therapy, where many foods are completely avoided over a long period of time. The detoxifying program you would choose would depend for most part on condition of your elimination system and your ove-rall health. You should get advice and support of a Doctor or Naturopath. Most of us know when we need to detoxify, even if we don't put a name to it. We just don't feel "ourselves"! We get that hazy, lack of focus, fatigued, sluggish, blocked, over-all rundown feeling.
| | Why should you take Nutritional Supplements?Written by Dan Ho
A busy lifestyle leaves little time for planning meals and cooking. It's far too easy to fill up diet with empty calories in fast and convenience foods. Packaged and prepared mixes make life easy, but seldom provide all nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. A good multinutrient supplement can help fill in gaps in your diet when you're too busy to eat balanced meals. But what if you eat a healthy diet? Do you still need to take vitamin and nutritional supplements? According to most experts on nutrition and American diet, answer is, quite honestly, yes. Over past ten years, scientists who study medical conditions like diabetes and coronary disease have all noted alarming rises in incidence of those diseases. It's not just that there are more people being diagnosed with diabetes or heart disease. The profile of those being diagnosed has changed dramatically. For first time ever, doctors are seeing significant number of children with adult onset diabetes and other conditions that were once thought to exclusively begin in middle age. Nearly every one of those conditions has been linked to diet and nutritional deficiencies. Why is this happening in a society as wealthy and well-fed as ours? The reasons are all wrapped up in our way of life and changes to society and environment over past 100 year some nutriitonists argue. One hundred years ago, most foods were grown and raised on small farms. Farmers rotated their crops regularly to get best harvests because they knew that soil needed replenishing in order for food to grow healthy and strong. Their livestock was fed a varied diet because animals were allowed to free range and graze at will. This meant that meat derived from those animals contained nutrients from food that they ate. The vegetables and fruits that appeared on dinner table had been sliced and cooked in kitchen, not canned months or even years earlier. There wasn't as much of a need to add vitamins that processing robs from food simply because foods weren't processed.
