Who's Watching You? Protecting Your Privacy On The InternetWritten by William Milham
It might be surprising to learn, but more often than not, someone is watching what you're doing on-line. I'm not talking about your kids (or parents) looking over your shoulder as you surf; I'm talking about good old Corporate America. Not only are you being "tracked" on Web, you're also giving out personal information, probably without even knowing it. Do you really want anyone to know where you're going on-line & what types of websites you frequent? Are you real big on giving companies you've never heard of your name, address, e-mail and a boatload of other information? I didn't think so. Here's what you do about it: There are two parts to this topic. 1. Keeping yourself from being tracked on Internet, and 2. Keeping your computer from giving out information when you don't want it to. Part One On Internet, companies use little files called cookies (stored in "Temporary Internet Files" folder) to track your web activity. They also have access to your "History" folder, which keeps a log of all sites you've visited. To keep yourself anonymous on web you should regularly clean "History" and "Temporary Internet Files" folders. To delete files from your "History" folder, you will need to do following: Open your web browser (this only works with MSIE 4+). On top toolbar, select "history" icon. A screen should appear on left hand side of browser. Once inside that screen, you can delete any items you find. That's it. Now, step two... To delete files/cookies from your "Temporary Internet Files" folder, you will need to do following: Open "Windows Explorer". On left hand side of screen, select c:/ then "Windows", then (in windows folder) find "Temporary Internet Files". Double-click "Temporary Internet Files" folder to open it in right-hand side of screen. Once folder opens, you can go ahead and delete what you find there except for a file called "index.dat" (you need that one. everything else is garbage). But only files in "Temporary Internet Files" folder. DO NOT Delete any other files or folders. You may seriously harm your computer. Done? Good. Your Internet trail is gone.

OOPS!! by jane fulton The other day I received an email in my inbox titled "Apology". I thought, apology? for what? I opened it and began reading. It seems that a fellow publisher had made a mistake! He publishes more than one newsletter and had sent wrong newsletter to wrong database. Oh my! He send this email to apologize to all of his subscribers, because he had made a mistake and as a result, his subscribers asking to unsubscribe. This was not first email I have read on this same subject. It seems that just because we have a website on internet, publish one or more newsletters, we are suppose to be perfect. "Not So!" Let's look at me, for example, I get up at 6:30AM, Pacific time. By 7AM, I'm on computer. I run a website, publish three newsletters, and am working on another website I hope to get on internet in next few months. The first thing I do is check my business email, then I go to my other 3 email addresses and clear them out. I'm usually through by 10AM. Now, it's time to get to work! Let's break this down.......running a website: 1)You must keep it up to date. Remember, you joined three new affiliate programs last night that you have to get on site, in case someone comes along that's looking for that particular product or service. 2) You must check all links. Have to make sure they are all working! I know that it's irritating to click on a link and it doesn't work or you get an error page. I've been there--done that and got irritated myself. Now that I have a site of my own, I have learned to be more tolerant and take time to email site owner and let them know. I have even had site owners ask me to send them a free ad for their publication because I took time to let them know about problem. I have done that myself. I know everyone must have noticed that I forgot to put question in contest in 2/15 issue. I had one person email me and bring it to my attention. Guess what? You're right! I told her to send me her free ad. It is published in this issue. 3) Maybe you have some other changes that you noted to make on your site. Oh my goodness, it's lunchtime! I never had breakfast! Oh well, I'll eat lunch while working. It'll save time.
