By Rebecca Blain of http://www.everything-volleyball.comThe fun and excitement of volleyball lures many children and adults into playing sport. However, in order to have as much fun as possible, volleyball safety is something that you must always keep in mind. There is no fun in a sport if you are injured and cannot play due to something as simple as knowing when or when not to bend your wrist. Your first consideration when preparing to play volleyball, or any sport for that matter, is to make certain you have all of equipment you need to play safely. Depending on where you are playing volleyball, there are several types of equipment you can purchase that can help prevent injuries. The basic equipment falls under several categories: - Protective Gear
- Shoes
- Clothing
- Miscellaneous Accessories
Protective Gear The most common type of equipment is basic protective gear. Pads and palm protectors fall into this category. Pads, such as elbow pads and knee pads are generally used in hard floor based volleyball, such as indoor courts located in schools world wide. All three are also highly suggested in sand based courts, and are considered a vital part of volleyball safety, as they protect most vulnerable parts of your body. Volleyball pads are used to prevent injury due to impact with ground from purposeful dives and accidental falls. Palm guards are used to protect your hands and wrist from impact of volleyball, as well as from falls. Shoes The second category of equipment that is vital for volleyball safety is style and type of shoes worn during game play. Specially designed men and women's volleyball shoes allow for better grip on court, which prevents sprained ankles and dangerous falls. Without proper shoes, you put yourself at risk. Nike and Reebok are two companies which specialize in sports shoes.Clothing During a volleyball game, wearing proper style of clothing is only way you can ensure accidents are prevented. Some styles of clothing, such as high riding shorts, can cause discomfort to player, which can lead to a lack of concentration and injury. By wearing proper sports jerseys and comfortable low rise shorts, you can enjoy a comfortable game without additional risk of injury.Miscellaneous Accessories When selecting your other accessories, you need to always keep your safety in mind. While ear rings and other piercings may be aesthetically pleasing, they do not belong on a volleyball court. Choosing what to wear besides standard volleyball safety gear is very important. A volleyball to stomach could cause a great deal of pain and danger should you have a naval piercing, for example. Earrings being ripped from earlobes is another common volleyball injury which is easily prevented. Play it safe. If you do not need accessory, take it off for duration of game. If you play volleyball a great deal, arrange for any piercings to be done and finished healing before or after season. If you must have volleyball accessories, some good wholesale accessories for volleyball include hair scrunchies, temporary tattoos, and arm bands. Another thing to consider is most, if not all volleyball leagues do not allow temporary tattoos to be worn during matches. Much like glitter, they could be considered a distraction to competition at hand. After you have been fully equipped for playing volleyball, there are other things that you need to keep in mind. These are basic safety rules of volleyball, and should be adhered to at all times. - Body Positions - Setting, Serving, Spiking and Passing
- Physical Contact
Body Positions In volleyball, an important aspect of sport is position your body is in, whether you are setting ball, serving, or spiking. Improper body positions can cause injury to yourself, or potentially others, so you should take great care in assuring that you assume proper positions.
| | The Evolution of Man - The History of HuntingWritten by Rebecca Blain
By Rebecca Blain of http://www.discount-hunting-supplies-and-tips.comPerhaps one of eldest activities on face of planet is hunting. The history of hunting, as a result, is also one of most diverse. Hunting for food has always been something that human kind has had to do, dating back to beginning of any civilizations known to man. As a result of this, there have been thousands of weapons and devices used to hunt. The history of hunting is far more complicated than any other history in world, as it stretches so far into past. In order to understand this history, you need to break down and study each era where hunting has been a major part of life. While there are exact time lines of when certain guns or weapons were produced, understanding importance of hunting should be done on a far broader scale. There is much more to history of hunting than when gun was created. The First Era, Pre-CivilizationIn this time frame, from before great cities to first starts of basic civilization, human race survived on their skills of scavenging and hunting. In cultures similar to those of first era and pre-civilization, women had roll of caring for home and preparing food brought in by men. Some portions of modern day Africa have conditions similar to this, where they do not have a great deal of money, and a similar style of hierarchy. The men all learned how to hunt, and they held these hunts daily to feed themselves. Unlike today, all hunting was for survival, and none of it for sport. All of materials from killed animals was used, from bones to pelt. Hunting was also a method of determining who was bravest warrior. The bravest would hunt ferocious creatures that lived nearby their homes. These kills were a vital part of early hierarchies. A wide variety of different weapons were used during this era, from slings to spears crafted of wood and stone. For large prey, hunters would work together in packs, similar to how a wolf hunts to bring down their quarry. The only trophies kept were antlers and teeth. Occasionally skulls would be kept as decoration or as symbols of clan or family group. This oldest form of hunting was basis in which present was formed. The Second Era, Growth of CivilizationAs people gathered together and civilization really began, role of men as hunters changed as well. Cities, by their very nature, require a variety of people with a lot of skills. There needed to be craftsmen and weavers, animal handlers and other trades so that everyone could have access to everything they needed. Instead of split between men and women, hunting became task of those most suited for hunting. These were usually always men, as it was looked down upon for women to participate in this line of work. This was also turning point where hunting becoming a sport. Civilizations, such as Babylonians, Egyptians, and Romans all had their hunters and craftsmen. The Romans, took hunting as a sport to a whole new level, capturing prey alive for sale or gladiatorial competitions. Only certain individuals were hunters, allowing select men to feed those in their community.
