Using Reiki for Relaxing DentistryWritten by Dr. Pirjo Friedman D.D.S.
The reason that many people are afraid to see a dentist probably arises from vision they have of dentistry as it was practiced a century ago, when equipment was basic and anesthetic was scarce. Let’s face it, dentistry hurt! Today, everything about dentistry has changed for better. But best improvement is our use of Reiki to relax patients who are uneasy in dental chair! Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that lets you tap into an unlimited supply of life force energy. Since ancient times, knowledge that an unseen energy, connected directly to quality of health, flows through all living things has been part of wisdom of many cultures. The existence of this energy has now been verified by scientific experiments. As a Reiki Master, I use Reiki as a natural way to relax my patients and calm their feelings of anxiety. Patients tell me that Reiki gives them a sense of peace and well-being that makes their dental visit a more pleasant experience than they ever expected. Some say they actually feel much better after dental treatment than they did before they came in! Once, I treated an eleven-year-old girl who had been in a car accident and was severely traumatized. She had gone through a lot of painful medical treatments and among other injuries, she had a broken front tooth and needed a root canal but I could not do anything as she was totally overcome by fear. After doing a Reiki treatment and relaxing girl, I was able to finish root canal in one session! The calming effect of Reiki allowed her to receive treatment she needed.

Barring something horrible such as having celiac disease, just about any vegetable-based enzymes supplement, such as Bio88+ (Plus), is great. But…children are not adults. What size doses should I be giving my child? Enzyme dosing is by amount and type of food eaten and not based on age or weight. A good plan is to start with part of one capsule of one product per significant meal or snack. Then increase to one capsule, then start in a similar way with other enzyme products. In neuro_typical population, there is no established upper limit on enzyme dosing, and no toxicity associated with oral enzymes. How many capsules or tablets would depend on specific formulation and individual’s need. For those individuals who tend to ‘graze,’ interval dosing may be more appropriate. Most people need to experiment (within reason!) with dosing to find level that best suits you or your child’s individual needs. When is best time for giving enzymes? This varies with type of supplement used. The best time for some is with first few bites of meal or just before mealtime. With others, such as Bio88+ (Plus), it is with or just after meal and for breakfast and supper – twice a day. If you forget, go ahead and take enzymes during meal and even at end of meal. The important point is to take enzyme, which works on contact. Food stays in stomach for up to 90 minutes, therefore, introducing enzymes anytime during meal will still provide benefits. Some people see much better results if they wait 20 to 30 minutes after swallowing enzymes contained in vegetable based capsules before they eat. Apparently vegetable capsules take longer to dissolve in stomach environment. Waiting before eating allows time for capsule to dissolve and sufficiently release enzymes into stomach.
