Using Print Head Sealing Tape

Written by Barry Shultz

There is a lot of confusion when it comes to using print head sealing tape. When you refill a cartridge that contains a print head, Lexmark and HP in particular, you need to sealrepparttar print head to #1 protect it and #2 keep it from drying out. The combination of sealing tape and a cartridge clip can't be beat for sealing cartridges for storage or transport.

Print head sealing tape comes in two varieties, adhesive and static. Both serve a different purpose which I will get into very shortly. There are two colors available, blue and orange. The orange tape is used on Canon cartridges mostly and is ofrepparttar 107193 adhesive variety. The blue tape is used on HP and Lexmark cartridges and is available in static or adhesive.

The reasonrepparttar 107194 orange tape is only available in adhesive form is because Canon cartridges don't have print heads on them which can be damaged with an adhesive type of tape. The orange tape can be used to sealrepparttar 107195 ink ports and refilling and breather holes onrepparttar 107196 BCI-3e and BCI-6 Canon cartridges.

The blue tape deserves more discussion because usingrepparttar 107197 wrong tape can permanently ruin your cartridge. Do not userepparttar 107198 adhesive tape on color print heads, ever. It is used to sealrepparttar 107199 breather holes for storage. The adhesive tape can actually causerepparttar 107200 copper foil to disconnect fromrepparttar 107201 cartridge when you remove it, which is of course a bad thing.

Written by Barry Shultz

People keep asking me which isrepparttar easiest inkjet cartridge to refill andrepparttar 107192 answer has beenrepparttar 107193 same for years now. Rather than tell you now I'm going to work fromrepparttar 107194 bottom ofrepparttar 107195 pile upwards.

Probablyrepparttar 107196 hardest cartridge to refill isrepparttar 107197 HP C6578. If you've mastered this one give yourself a hardy pat onrepparttar 107198 back. HP color cartridges likerepparttar 107199 C1823,repparttar 107200 forbearer torepparttar 107201 C6578, have been a challenge to refillers because ofrepparttar 107202 unique design that I'm sure was carefully engineered to thwart refilling.

Conversely and ironically, HP couples this with a black cartridge that is a snap to refill, repparttar 107203 51645A and C6615. Go figure. But we still didn't get torepparttar 107204 easiest one to refill. Keep reading.

Lexmark cartridges have followedrepparttar 107205 same basic designs as HP. You can see a remarkable resemblance inrepparttar 107206 Lexmark 12A1980 and its counterpart 15M0120 to HP's 51625A and 51649A color cartridges. All of these cartridges are a pain to refill but can be done with great success if you knowrepparttar 107207 secret, and that is to removerepparttar 107208 sponges and clean them with warm water before refilling.

Lexmark's 10N0016, 10N0026, 18L0032 and 18L0042 are remarkably similar to HP's C6656, C6657, C8727 and C8728. Not surprisingly they refillrepparttar 107209 same way andrepparttar 107210 results are mixed. Occasionally I'll receive an email from somebody having problems refilling these cartridges but it usually is because they are refilling to fast or something like that.
