Understanding Cholesterol Levels and Decrease the Risk of Heart Attacks and Strokes

Written by Claire Bowes

Fact:

• heart disease claims about ˝ million lives in America per year • high cholesterol levels play a significant role in heart disease • studies show if you lower cholesterol levels, repparttar risk of heart disease is reduced by up-to 40%

What is Cholesterol?

Before we go into how to reduce your cholesterol, let’s take a look at what exactly cholesterol is.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is produced byrepparttar 113642 liver and its job is to:-

• produce bile acids to help withrepparttar 113643 digestion of fat • build and repair cells and • produce estrogens and testosterone hormones

Therefore cholesterol is an important function ofrepparttar 113644 body, but too much cholesterol inrepparttar 113645 body becomes a risk as it can clog up arteries and this can berepparttar 113646 cause of heart attacks and strokes.

Cholesterol Symptoms

It is surprising to learn that there are virtually no symptoms to diagnose if you have high cholesterol. High cholesterol is normally identified by a blood test.

However, if you are having health issues such as coronary disease, vascular disease or stroke, then this could berepparttar 113647 end result of high cholesterol levels in your body.

Symptoms of:

Coronary Disease • Angina • Chest pains • Nausea • Shortness of breath

Vascular Disease • A tightening sensation inrepparttar 113648 lower extremities • Ulcers or open sores onrepparttar 113649 lower extremities

The Five Modalities of Optimum Health, Wealth, & Success

Written by Neesha D. Meminger

The Five Modalities of Optimum Health: Body, Mind, Spirit, Emotions, &repparttar Overarch.

Optimum health, wealth, and success, require peak performance, or functioning, in each ofrepparttar 113641 five major layers ofrepparttar 113642 Self – what I have come to define in my Coaching practice asrepparttar 113643 Five Modalities. There arerepparttar 113644 basic three: Mind, Body, and Spirit, that many “progressive” thinkers inrepparttar 113645 current medical paradigm are beginning to acknowledge and embrace.

The fourth layer isrepparttar 113646 Modality ofrepparttar 113647 Emotions which is as important asrepparttar 113648 above-mentioned three; and I coach through a fifth Modality that has yet to become part ofrepparttar 113649 ongoing conversation about Optimum health and success: what I refer to asrepparttar 113650 Overarch, or Social Ecosystem.

Each of us is born into a Social, or Economic Ecosystem. The dictionary definition of an Ecosystem is: “a localized group of interdependent organisms together withrepparttar 113651 environment that they inhabit and depend on.” So, we all enter into this world ecosystem in a particular social or economic status. And, we enter into this world as interdependent creatures. Socially, and economically, we depend on one another for survival, just as much as we depend onrepparttar 113652 earth for our food and water and other essentials.

Although our social or economic status can change throughout our lives, based on a variety of factors;repparttar 113653 structure ofrepparttar 113654 Overarch, itself, remains intact, and will continue to remain thus. It has been this way for thousands and thousands of years in all parts ofrepparttar 113655 world.

This structure is hierarchical in nature, resembling a pyramid. Those nearrepparttar 113656 apex, have more control, access to resources, and decision-making capabilities thanrepparttar 113657 ones nearrepparttar 113658 base. Yet, those towardrepparttar 113659 apex are only able to exist at that spot withrepparttar 113660 support of all those that are holding them there fromrepparttar 113661 base on up. So, we all fall into position somewhere in this hierarchical pyramid structure. And, asrepparttar 113662 physical structure of a pyramid would suggest, repparttar 113663 vast majority ofrepparttar 113664 world’s population is closer torepparttar 113665 base ofrepparttar 113666 pyramid thanrepparttar 113667 apex.

Why would this be important in Optimum Health? Three reasons;repparttar 113668 first is thatrepparttar 113669 level of control over one’s basic physical survival, (in our current paradigm, this takesrepparttar 113670 form of finances and access to resources) increases as they move towardrepparttar 113671 apex – fewer people have direct influence over major areas of a person’s liferepparttar 113672 closer s/he gets torepparttar 113673 pinnacle.

Factors such as whether a person has an income and how much they earn, are examples of specific areas that a person gains increased command over as he or she nearsrepparttar 113674 top ofrepparttar 113675 Social Ecosystemic pyramid. In other words, there are less people that haverepparttar 113676 capacity to fire or hire you; less people who decide how much or how little money you make; less to decide when you work andrepparttar 113677 terms of that work; less who decide whether or when there is time off for family or leisure.

The closer a person gets torepparttar 113678 top ofrepparttar 113679 Social Ecosystem pyramid, repparttar 113680 more control they have over their time and resources, and decision-making capacity increases dramatically. For example, heads of state haverepparttar 113681 ultimate decision-making capacity;repparttar 113682 decisions they make affectrepparttar 113683 entire social and economic ecosystem of our pyramid. They have ultimate control over their own finances, when and under what terms they work; access to more resources than anyone else inrepparttar 113684 Overarch; and ultimate control over how much income they are able to generate (not all of it necessarily being through earned income from their "job"). The same is true for others who are not heads of state, but are on par with that positioning onrepparttar 113685 pyramind.
