It has world-class museums, big statues, even bigger buildings, outrageous excess, and a whole lot of whooo-wheee! New York is a densely packed mass of humanity and all this living on top of one another makes New Yorker a special kind of person. Major Attractions include American Museum of Natural History, Central Park, Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, SoHo, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square, Tribeca, Greenwich Village and many more. There are some 50 officially recognized parades each year, along with more than 400 street fairs. Times Square's New Year's Eve festivities are probably most famous in world; less popular is 5 mile (8km) midnight run in Central Park. On 5 January, thousands of children wander up 5th Ave, in a cavalcade of sheep, camels and donkeys, for Three Kings Parade. The St Patrick's Day Parade down 5th Ave on 17 March has been held every year for 200 years. In mid-May International Food Festival clogs 9th Ave, while in June Tibetan Monks discuss transcendental matters in Central Park as part of Change Your Mind Day. The JVC Jazz Festival is also held in June, as is free Shakespeare in Park, where some of screen's biggest stars do bard in Central Park. On 4 July, Macy's sponsors an Independence Day fireworks spectacle on East River. The city's premier black neighborhood celebrates Harlem Week in August, and on Labor Day over one million people take part in West Indian American Day Carnival Parade in Brooklyn, biggest single event for year. The New York Film Festival also takes place in September. Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in November is always popular, and for more festive cheer don't miss Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on following Tuesday
| | Molokai: The Best Hawaiian Island You've Never Visited Written by Isaac Rau
Molokai: The Best Hawaiian Island You've Never Visited About 1.5 million years ago two large volcanoes, Kamakou in east and Maunaloa in west, pushed through ocean's surface and formed island of Molokai. It first became inhabited around 650 A.D. by daring settlers traveling in double hulled canoes from Tahiti and other areas in South Pacific. Of roughly 7,000 residents about 40% are of Hawaiian descent, hence moniker "The Most Hawaiian Island". Here's a quick list of places I visited in Molokai... Kalaupapa National Historical Park: The settings of two tragic chapters starting in mid 19th century with removal of indigenous people from this spot followed by forced quarantining of leprosy patients here. RW Meyer Sugar Mill Museum: Also known as Molokai Museum and Cultural Center, this retired sugar mill was built in late 1870's to crush and process sugar cane. The family home, which overlooks mill, is still owned by RW Meyer family members.
