Work at home businesses are being promoted literally in their thousands. Are they any good? Which work at home business is right for you? Should you have one?

The Work at Home Business

It’s not everyone’s “cup of tea” but idea of working at home is appealing.

Because of this, explosion of home business related subjects, articles, opportunities and resources aren’t just on internet, but almost everywhere you look these days. Have a look for yourself, type in home business on Google you get nearly 49 million sites. Look in any popular magazine/newspaper classified section, see what I mean?

Most of us would much rather work at home, thought of easing yourself into day with a cup of tea or coffee as opposed to being forced to commute to office, shop or wherever at “Stupid ‘o’ Clock” is bound to appeal. Not having anyone else to answer to is also very appealing and most people would love to be able to tell their boss exactly what they think of them. Let’s face it, a lot of us would much rather not have to go to work at all.

There is more to it than that though, some people can’t to go out to work and have to work at home, it’s practical as well, in this day and age where we are all being taxed to death with everything getting more and more expensive, need to earn as much money as possible to look after family let alone to afford some creature comforts is all to real.

If you’re self employed, then you almost certainly run your business from home, you already know and appreciate advantages of working for yourself from home. But I’m talking about businesses that allow you to work at home as well.

Are they any Good?

Many work at home business opportunities are available from established companies who already undertake marketing campaigns and so have lots of flyers, software, text adverts, articles or even your own website to sell their products as an agent.

We are not even dealing with kind of punishment you might get at school or a correctional institution. We are talking about toughest kind of discipline: regular, old-fashioned, grit-your-teeth self-discipline. I can hear groans but I don’t know why Discipline has become so unpopular. You should treat it as a good friend, shake hands with Discipline and give him a clap on back — invite him in to look around your home office and get his opinion of your plans.

Discipline will strengthen you and make it easier for you to get organised and stay organised; consider taking him in as a business partner. It is Discipline which will help you to keep going in face of difficulties. It is Discipline which will help you fit in million and one things which will be clamouring for your attention when you first start out as your own boss.

OK, you are boss and you can take a day off when you like without asking permission from anybody else. Great! Fantastic! Wonderful! Yes, it is just as you wanted it to be — but who is going to cover for you during your absence? Who is going to sort out your schedule, arrange for your mail to be acknowledged, make sure your diary is up to date? Aha, now you see it. The answer is “you” because there is nobody else. You, that is, and your good buddy, Discipline, who will steadfastly see you through this potentially difficult situation.

If you have a vacation planned, you will have a date to work to and, even if you are lackadaisical in your running of your business and allow tasks to pile up, you will know how long you have in which to get things sufficiently ship-shape for you to be able to take off without leaving your business in a mess.

What if you decide to take a day off at short notice (like, just when you wake up one morning)? That is one of great things about being boss but wouldn’t it be easier if your work was right up to date, everything neat and organised? Wouldn’t you be more relaxed if machine was running smoothly?
