The Winning Edge TheoryWritten by Eric Plantenberg
One of greatest challenges people face when trying to make personal improvement is feeling overwhelmed. This probably stems from belief that in order to make incredible progress in their life, they will have to start by creating a long and detailed list of things they are doing wrong and all things they are going to have to change. That thinking is simply inaccurate. In Kentucky Derby, winning horse receives prize money 10 times greater than horse it beat by a ‘nose’. In professional baseball, difference between being sent to Minors and a million dollar contract is one single out of every 20 times at bat. A handful of electoral votes determined who won last Presidential election. But nowhere are examples as dramatic as in your own life! If you are 1% better than your competition in business, you will get 100% of sale ~ if you are 1% worse you get nothing.

The Time is Now As we enter holiday season and end of year approaches, many people find themselves in a time of both reflection and anticipation. They look back at year gone by; evaluating successes and failures and beginning process of determining their focus and goals for upcoming year. While I am a strong proponent of both learning from past experiences and of setting effective goals for future, I encourage people to be cautious of losing power of moment they are in. Many of our students frequently ask “How can I become more effective?” or “How can I improve how I feel throughout day?” or “How do I remove stress from situations that I am facing?” I believe answers to those questions and most challenges people face can be found by focusing on present moment. All mental fears, whether that is stress, fear of failure, anxiety, worry, doubt, regret or others, result from focusing on events that have already happened (which you no longer have any control to change) or future events that you image to be unpleasant (which are not real, but simply part of your imagination). The only reality that we face lives in present moment.
