The Sound of SuccessWritten by Arleen M. Kaptur
Successful people are everywhere. They are in newspapers, on television programs, and are being interviewed and their words written down by reporters for all kinds of magazines and journals. But, how do we know if these “successful” people are really telling us truth or giving us advice that we can follow and learn from? Watch these people very closely - if they appear apprehensive and ill at ease, that just may be an indication that they are uncomfortable in public situations or it may clue us in on fact that there may not be any concrete or actual facts to back up what they are saying. Real successful people appear relaxed and have one point in common. They have sound of success. Its not in their “actual” words, but way they talk and react. The sound of success is laughter, enjoyment, and being at ease as well as putting others at ease. They are not afraid of type of impression they are portraying, because they are real. They are not “putting on an act”, they are just being themselves. They shake your hand confidently, and sincerely. They walk with an air of confidence that only comes naturally when you are happy and content on inside as well as out. They have accomplished what they have set out to do, and they have right to be proud and happy. Not all successful people will make headline news and be interviewed by major television stations and talk-show hosts. They don’t need this type of exposure to enjoy what they have achieved. All truly successful people are willing to share their insight and knowledge so that others may reach their goals and their pinnacles of ability. Successful people can find joy in simple things and sound of their laughter is not a mimicking type of facade, but a down-to-earth real-time sound that tells everyone around them that life is good and enjoyable. Successful individuals take their goals and their strengths and weaknesses very seriously. They can, however, laugh at themselves, but they will never cross line to ridicule or belittle another. They are true giants in whatever they pursue and undertake. These people face problems and look for solutions. There is no mountain that they feel cannot be ventured over and each morning brings fresh, new opportunities.
| | No Better Time Than The PresentWritten by Myrtis Smith
Through my studies, I've been introduced to concept that "Present is Perfect." The idea is that no mater what is going on in your life right now, this is how it is suppose to be and it is perfect. Everything that has happened in your life up until now has brought you to this moment for a reason. The past is lost; you can't do anything about things that have happened yesterday. The future is completely unknown and only control you have over tomorrow is action you take today. This is a difficult concept for most to grasp. We spend so much time reliving past and worrying about future that we don't focus much on present. We waste away our time dreaming of a different life. What if I had attended another college? What if I had married a different person? What if I had taken that job in another city? Or even worse we spend our lives looking forward to future, not enjoying here and now. Parents are a good example of this. I can't wait until baby comes. I can't wait until he’s walking. I can't wait until he's out of diapers. I can't wait until he's in school all day. I can't wait until he's driving. The next thing you know, your child is going off to college and you're wondering where did all time go. I recently had an opportunity to practice this idea on a week long vacation my husband and I took. Everyday, I made a conscious effort to enjoy moment we were in. I didn't worry about things I left behind at home and I didn't worry about what I was going to do once I got back home. We even went so far as to not plan what we were going to do day to day. We enjoyed walks along beach, driving through a strange city, and just sitting by pool reading. It was most relaxing vacation I've ever had and it felt like we were gone for a very, very long time. THAT is power of living in present.
