Ten Tips for a "Real" Holiday Season

Written by Toni Raiten-D'Antonio

Withrepparttar holidays just weeks away, there’s no better time to consider how to makerepparttar 101402 season less stressful and more meaningful. For those of us who would like to remember this time with gratitude and joy, follow these ten tips for keepingrepparttar 101403 season "Real."

1. Set Realistic Expectations - No holiday is perfect. Sometimes recipes flop, gifts don’t arrive on time, and decorations break. Remember, repparttar 101404 holidays are first and foremost about connecting withrepparttar 101405 people who love us whether or not we get everything right.

2. The Holidays are Not a Competition – The only thing you’re guaranteed to get from trying to out-decoraterepparttar 101406 neighbors is a big electric bill. The same goes for trying to out-do what you did last year.

3. Empathy isrepparttar 101407 Key to Gift Giving – Before you make that purchase, spend a moment reflecting onrepparttar 101408 person who will receive it. Does he really like goofy hats? If you're buying it only because you want a photo of him in it, think again.

4. Happy Holidays are Not Generic – Greeting cards and TV programs offer air-brushed ideas that lackrepparttar 101409 little quirks that makerepparttar 101410 holidays memorable. Be creative. Let your personality shine through.

5. Reassess Your Traditions - The kinds of celebrations and activities that you enjoyed inrepparttar 101411 past may not work today. Maybe your children have grown up. Maybe you have some new ideas. Maybe it’s time to invent a new tradition.

6. Be Brave – As funny as it may sound, making a happy holiday can take some courage. If certain people, places and events are just too stressful for you to bear, try to limit your exposure to them. Who says you have to give an entire afternoon over to that uncle who won’t stop criticizing you? 7. Sharerepparttar 101412 Burden – Wouldn't you prefer to pitch in and help withrepparttar 101413 holiday preparations to avoid watching someone else burn-out? If you arerepparttar 101414 main event planner forrepparttar 101415 holidays, make sure everyone knows you welcome their assistance. Just don’t expect them to do thingsrepparttar 101416 way you would. Allow for imperfections and enjoyrepparttar 101417 surprises.

Now That You "Have" Cancer, What's Your Strategy (Article 5 of 6)

Written by Bill Henderson

Your doctor has saidrepparttar "C" word and you're puzzling: "What do I do now? There seem to be so many options. The doctor is pressing me to get on withrepparttar 101401 surgery and chemotherapy/ radiation. Help!"

I've been there. I know. Unfortunately for my dear wife, there was no readily available information in 1990-1994 (or, at least, I failed to find it)... Now, there's too much onrepparttar 101402 Internet and in books, newsletters, etc.

A SOUND APPROACH

Of allrepparttar 101403 hundreds of people I have now watched overcome their cancer, there seem to be four "essentials" that they all have. I call themrepparttar 101404 "Four A's."

ATTITUDE -- all cancer survivors share a positive attitude. They know that they, not their doctors, are in charge of their health. They know that all cancers, regardless of type or "stage," can be brought back under control. They know that they must co-doctor for allrepparttar 101405 reasons you have already learned about our conventional medical "system."

ADVOCATE -- Virtually allrepparttar 101406 cancer survivors I know also had a loved one or friend willing to help them. How? * To dorepparttar 101407 necessary research to get "smarter than their oncologist." * To accompany them torepparttar 101408 doctor's office. * To help them decide when to get a second (or third, or fourth) opinion and help them find a "holistic" doctor. * To help them find and orderrepparttar 101409 cheapest and best quality supplements.

Cancer patients often get depressed, tired or just plain disgusted withrepparttar 101410 struggle to overcome their disease. Get an "advocate."

ASSISTANCE -- Cancer recovery is not a "do it yourself" project. Every cancer survivor has had supervision of their treatment and recovery by a qualified medical professional. The letters after his or her name are meaningless (M.D., D.O., N.D., D.C., etc.). What is important is that you, repparttar 101411 cancer patient, literally trust them with your life

Again, repparttar 101412 resources for finding such a doctor through Internet directories are phenomenal. My book has eleven such web directories in Chapter 1. But don't neglectrepparttar 101413 "jungle" telegraph." Ask all your friends (who agree with your approach). I don't have cancer. But I did what I recommend you do and found my "holistic" doctor through a "holistic" dentist who had treated my current wife.

ACTION -- Get on with it! Don't wait to begin taking useful supplements (Chapter 5 in my book) until you've foundrepparttar 101414 perfect doctor. Start today. Cancer cells continue multiplying out of control every day. They're not at "Parade Rest" while you decide what to do. Time matters. Get going!

IMMUNE SYSTEM STIMULATION

Whatever else you decide to do -- whether it's surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, alternative treatments or some combination of all of them -- you must build up your immune system -- immediately. One ofrepparttar 101415 world's experts onrepparttar 101416 immune system who has treated hundreds of cancer patients told me he had never seen one with a strong immune system. With what you know aboutrepparttar 101417 nature of cancer, this should not come as a surprise. My immune system is controllingrepparttar 101418 cancer cells that exist in my body every day. Yours is not. End of story.
