Ten Techniques for Motivating Others through Chaos by Ed Sykes ©2004

The work environment has changed. Change has becomerepparttar norm. Alsorepparttar 123004 truth level of employees has decreased. This can lead to increased dissatisfaction and decreased productivity.

Here are ten techniques for motivating your employees to succeed during chaos:

1. Take Care ofrepparttar 123005 Little Things Doingrepparttar 123006 little things well will show that your respect your employees. Making sure you are on time for meetings, saying “good morning” and “thank-you,” and returning phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner goes a long way to showing your employees that you care during chaotic times.

2. Be an Active Listener Recent research stated thatrepparttar 123007 average supervisor or manager only invests two hours per year applying “pure listening” skills. Pure listening is when you are listening to your employee you are not:

* Multitasking * Ordering your lunch * Watching people walk by your office. * Answering telephone calls * Setting up appointments

To be a pure listener you must be an active listener. Good managers do more than pay attention. They genuinely care about people and never talk down to them. They ask their employees about their goals and dreams, their past achievement, their concerns and challenges during this chaotic time. They listen with their hearts and minds. They respectrepparttar 123008 employee’s thoughts and opinions. They realize thatrepparttar 123009 employees sometimes haverepparttar 123010 best answer for achieving more through chaos.

3. Walk your Talk If you expect your employees to arrive early, then you arrive early. If you expect your employees to keep their promises, you keep your promises. If you want your employees to keep to high standards, you keep to high standards. Your employees are watching you even when you don’t think they are watching you. So setrepparttar 123011 tone. Once you walk throughrepparttar 123012 doors of your organization make sure you are positive and upbeat if you expect your employees to be positive and upbeat.

4. Let People Know They Make a Difference Atrepparttar 123013 top of many lists of what motivates employees, more than money, is knowing that they make a difference at work. One ofrepparttar 123014 most powerful methods of letting your employees know they make is difference is…praise (Go to article Appreciate to Motivate to learn how). The praise should relate to howrepparttar 123015 employee helps achieverepparttar 123016 overall mission ofrepparttar 123017 organization.

5. Communicate Clearly Communicate so that others understand what you want to achieve. Adapt your communication torepparttar 123018 audience you are speaking. Constantly communicate your vision and goals so that there are no misunderstandings. Your Past and Present Hold Key to Your Future

Written by Andrew Abernathy

Knowing more about who you are will give yourepparttar insight for your future goals.

Where are you going?

This isn't about location...It's about focus and achievement in your life. Pretty big stuff, but not so big you can't get your hands around it and get down torepparttar 123003 basics so you can achieve your life's goals.

Did you accomplish what you set out to do last month? Or did you even have an idea of what you wanted to accomplish?

If not, did you playrepparttar 123004 blame game? Was itrepparttar 123005 economy again? orrepparttar 123006 competition? or your boss changingrepparttar 123007 rules again? If these are your reasons (excuses) then you are involved in manipulation. I mean you are being maniuplated toward achievement, not self-centered principled achievement.

If you have read anything about goals, principled leadership or even goal setting from an achievement perspective you realize that everyone of us allows something to get inrepparttar 123008 way. It's part of that negative, sceptical thought pattern engrained inside of us. You just naturally create barriers. But there is good news--Barriers are meant to be jumped over!

Periodically, I set down and review where I have been, what I have been driven to do, where my interests are and what I am 'on fire' about. I've been doing this for about 20 years now and I have to say I have not always been satisfied with what I saw in myself. I'mrepparttar 123009 kind of person who sees opportunity around every corner and wants to try lots of new things. It can get pretty distracting when trying to accomplishrepparttar 123010 larger goals in life.

Two years ago I realized that I had to change several things in my life and I began an experiment withrepparttar 123011 internet. After about six or eight months of reading and study I launched AeAutomation.com. as a marketing newsletter. So far it has been a great success my many of my measurements, but not in all of them. The greatest success was it forced me to write and explorerepparttar 123012 forces at work in my life that were moving me to accomplish an very long standing life goal. In that perspective AeAutomation has completedrepparttar 123013 central goal of it's existence.

It spawnedrepparttar 123014 fertile ground that focused my thoughts and completedrepparttar 123015 framework for over three years of adhoc writing and research I have been doing.

Now I am looking at what kind of objective I want AeAutomation to achieve inrepparttar 123016 future. The jury is still out but I do know it will continue for a while yet. I suspect AeAutomation will always exist asrepparttar 123017 marketing and news arm of all my future efforts. After all it isrepparttar 123018 girl I brought torepparttar 123019 dance and you should always take that girl home.

All this is to say you can't understand where you want to go if you dont realize where you have been. Pretty obvious, but not easy to face when you have to acknowledge both failure and success. I like to remember that Thomas Edison often referred torepparttar 123020 10,000 possibilities that failed to make an electric light bulb. Failure is onlyrepparttar 123021 teacher for success. When you realize what they are you can move on to more success.

I have a collection of articles from a lot of great columnists, one of them is Jeffrey Gitomer. Several months ago Jeff wrote about this process of getting in focus and he used several steps that make it easy to figure a lot of this hour.

Jeffery used four categories to digest your life stuff.

1. Once was. 2. As is. 3. Can be. 4. Become.

I'll start withrepparttar 123022 "Once was." History, autobiography, water underrepparttar 123023 bridge. All that great, terrible, wonderful, unique experience in your life that makes you who you are. If you look back in your life I'll bet you remember those pivotal experiences in life that were surprises not looked for as well as those experiences you wanted to happen and then found not so rewarding as you anticipated. Rememberrepparttar 123024 old saying "Be careful what you ask for, you might get it"? I certainly remember what I got and often it did not make that much difference to me after I got it. I perceived a new perspective afterwards and found out more about what really makes me tick.

You see failure or disappointment are just as important a teacher as success and self-awareness. Any time you find out what gives you a sense of worth and value that experience is worth whatever it costs you. All of this is your "Once was." Pay attention to it , but don't live in it.
