THE TRUTH BEHIND CAR ACCIDENTSWritten by Jinky C. Mesias
Did you know that car accidents are not necessarily caused by accidents? In fact most accidents are not accidents at all but are caused by collisions which could have been avoided if only drivers were alert enough. There are several factors that contribute to majority cases of collisions and these are as follows: equipment failure, roadway design, poor roadway maintenance and then driver’s behavior. According to studies conducted on car accidents almost 95% of accident can be blamed on driver’s recklessness in driving either due to excessive speeding or due to aggressive driver behaviors. However, remaining three factors are just considered as secondary causes of car accidents. In order to fully understand each of these causes it is important to tackle each one by one. EQUIPMENT FAILURE The most common equipment failures are due to loss of brakes, tire blowouts, thread separation and then steering and suspension failure. Nevertheless, such equipment failures should not be blamed on car manufacturers since they have made all possible effort in providing their manufactured cars with safety features that are in accordance to minimum safety standard in order to ensure safety of their clients. Moreover, equipment failures only constitute 5% of total car accidents reported. ROADWAY DESIGN Roadway designs are rarest cause of car accidents, it’s because roadway designs are a collaboration of all transportation experts that have years of experience when it comes to road construction as well as in effective traffic management system. Aside from that, roadways are constructed by engineers with consideration to following: hazard visibility, roadway surfaces, traffic control devices, behavioral control devices, traffic flow, roadway identification signs and weather.

There are different types of car accidents that a driver may encounter and this article aims to help those drivers involved into knowing classification of car accident they are currently involved in. Car accidents fall into several categories and these are as follows: rear-end collisions, side collisions, rollovers, head-on collisions, single-car accidents and pile-ups. REAR-END COLLISIONS The rear-end collision is a traffic accident wherein a vehicle crash with vehicle in front of it. In this type of collision both vehicles involved experienced mechanical damage and aside from that, injuries contacted by both occupants are not that severe compared to damaged taken by their vehicles. And also, a typical medical consequence of rear-end collisions is a whiplash and this may also happen even in cases where collisions happened at moderate speed. Furthermore, for insurance as well as policing vehicle that bumps or crash rear-end of another car is one considered at fault. SIDE COLLISIONS A side collision is wherein two vehicles crashing side-to-side. The severity of damaged incurred by vehicles are based on vehicles structures wherein less structurally set-up vehicle will tend to suffer much of collision damaged. Moreover, occupants of vehicle with lower mass will suffer greater injuries.
