Software To Help You Create A Robots.Txt fileWritten by Sumantra Roy
Robogen is a software for Windows 95, Windows 98,Windows XP and Windows NT based computers which can help you create robots.txt files without having to worry about correct syntax of a robots.txt file. It comes in two editions: free Limited edition and Standard edition which costs $12.95. You can get Robogen from http://www.rietta.com/robogen/. In this article, I'll tell how you can use Robogen to simplify process of creating a robots.txt file. This article assumes that you have read my article on what a robots.txt file is and how you can manually create it. If you missed article, it is available at http://www.1stSearchRanking.com/t.cgi?4901&robots.htm I would recommend that you download trial version of Standard Edition. The Limited edition does not support as many search engines as Standard Edition. Once you have downloaded Robogen and installed it in your hard drive, start program. Here are steps that you should follow to create a robots.txt file: Step 1: Click on Logon FTP Server button. In dialog box that appears, type in address of FTP server for your web site, make sure that "This server requires me to log in" option is checked, and then type in username and password which you use to access server in appropriate boxes. Now, depending on how your web host has set up server, files for your web site may be present in root directory of server itself. Or, it may be present in a sub-directory of root directory. In latter case, click on "Use specified root" option and type relevant sub-directory in text box besides option. If you don't know in which sub-directory files for your web site are present, ask your web host to give it to you. Done? Now click on OK. After a while, Robogen will display directories and files which are present in your site in right pane of main Robogen program window. If you find that Robogen has not displayed files in your site, it means that you did not enter correct sub-directory in which files of your web site are present. In this case, ask you web host to give correct sub-directory to you.
| | Why Ugly Sites Sell More Than Pretty Sites...Written by Anik Singal
What heck is going on lately? Most internet websites I go to now, all I see are pretty graphics everywhere. I see moving images, I see crazy JAVA, things flying around.Don't get me wrong, some of these graphics are truly amazing - I love to see them! But, that's problem! I only love to look at them, when I'm done looking at them, I LEAVE! Lately, there's been a disturbing trend of everyone spending huge amounts of money on web graphics. The problem? There is NO proof that this really helps your sales! As a matter of fact, one of my biggest money makers is a consulting service... www.SingalMarketing.com/consultingte.html ...I put that page up in 5 minutes (after writing my copy). Believe it or not, but even being such a high priced service - that page converts about 2.5% - of course I get very targeted traffic... LOOK AT HOW UGLY IT IS!!! BUT, it has content! It has great copy, it's got my face, my voice and a great service - ACTUAL key ingredients to making a website that sells...Now, problem is that most people are very logical - you would THINK that a good looking site should sell more - it makes sense right? You expect that a good looking site probably increases your credibility - I mean, come on, it shows your visitor that you REALLY mean business, yadda yadda yadda...But, again, look at MY site - I'm selling a high priced consulting service to business owners - I'm actually selling my expertise in internet business world. Yet, site design (or lack there of) seems to have NO influence.
