Sci-Fi Communications at Home

Written by Jesse S. Somer

Computers and web cams are taking communication to levels only imagined in sci-fi novels.

One ofrepparttar most incredible inventions I’ve ever come across isrepparttar 107640 web cam and its process of video conferencing. This is just so futuristic I can’t believe they really exist and are readily available to anyone withrepparttar 107641 Internet, speakers, andrepparttar 107642 right software. I’m not absolutely sure but doesn’t this spellrepparttar 107643 end of telephones? Now we can have conversations with people onrepparttar 107644 other side ofrepparttar 107645 world, and see their face moving as we hear them speaking live.

Picture this: You’re an Antarctic explorer on a solo journey inrepparttar 107646 middle ofrepparttar 107647 ice and snow on your way torepparttar 107648 South Pole. The only living creatures around arerepparttar 107649 slippery penguins sliding around having fun. You’re in your special tent keeping safe fromrepparttar 107650 intense wind fromrepparttar 107651 blizzard outside. As you boil up water on your portable stove you flip open your laptop (with battery recharger, broadband Internet, and in-built speakers) and connect with your family back in Russia. You can see their smiles as you hear them speak. What a magical connection!

Another great aspect of video conferencing isrepparttar 107652 fact that you can communicate with whole groups of people at once either through networking a group of computers or by form of broadcast. This is a huge step forward for both companies and for schools. I’ve heard corporations have saved a lot of money and time, and students are enjoying learning this way much more than from a textbook. Informed people can talk to classes and help them learn, where otherwise they wouldn’t be able to because of time and distance restrictions. This is also a bonus for children who have different learning styles. E.G. The more visual types who understand better when they can see what they’re working with.

The End of Spyware?

Written by Grant Rogers

The US House of Representatives has recently passedrepparttar "Spy Act" - or to give it its full title -repparttar 107639 Securely Protect Yourself Against Cyber Trespass Act. This aims to prevent software companies from installing spyware on users PCs without their knowledge, and anyone found guilty of breachingrepparttar 107640 act faces a fine of up to $3 million.

Does this meanrepparttar 107641 end of spyware as we know it? Unfortunatelyrepparttar 107642 answer is no, not really. The problem is that most spyware can continue to operate in exactlyrepparttar 107643 same way as it does now, by askingrepparttar 107644 computer user to agree to a licence before it installs itself. The majority of people who are faced with a lengthy legal-looking page of text when installing a new program, automatically clickrepparttar 107645 "I Agree" option without readingrepparttar 107646 terms. Therefore spyware programs can quite legally continue to piggy-back their way onto PCs.
