Nickel and Dimed By Barbara Ehrenreich ISBN 0-8050-6389-7 Henry Holt and Company, LLC 115 West 18th Street New York, NY 10011

I believe one ofrepparttar 109745 books our political leaders should be required to read, when getting in public office, or while in office, is Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehrenreich.

One ofrepparttar 109746 main reasons I feel our political leaders should read this book, is so that they can get a true account of what goes on in our society, aside fromrepparttar 109747 impersonal "statistics" that make many Americans seem more like a number and less like a human being.

It is easy to keep a distance and not fully understandrepparttar 109748 pains, turmoils, and conditions ofrepparttar 109749 lower working class when one is sitting in an air conditioned office, driving luxury cars, and spending their days reading documents and implementing laws based on those documents.

Nickel and Dimed isrepparttar 109750 true account of what many Americans face on a daily basis… hard working, under-educated, under-paid, under-insured, low income families working anywhere from one to three jobs, just to keep a roof over their families' heads and food onrepparttar 109751 table.

Nickel and Dimed takes a realistic look at what goes on when a person doesn't haverepparttar 109752 skills to maintain a decent living wage. It showcasesrepparttar 109753 truth behindrepparttar 109754 reality that while our country is one ofrepparttar 109755 best places to live and raise a family, our minimum wage standard does not meet standard living expenses.

Written by Thomas Cutler

The Fearless Caregiver Conference atrepparttar Broward Convention Center will be held Saturday, April 16th. The event allows family caregivers andrepparttar 109743 professional caregiving community to come together and explore ways to be a more productive member of their loved one’s care team. According to Olga Bruner, founder of A Good Daughter, Inc., based in Margate, Florida (www.agooddaughter.com), “I attended my first caregiver conference in 2001 while I was caregiver to my own mom. I never realized that there was such a large community of support, and resources available from local experts. It’s a must-do especially for those individuals caring at home for a loved-one with Alzheimer’s disease.”

As Today’s Caregiver Magazine celebrates its 10th anniversary, families will hear from this year’s featured guest speaker, popular musical artist and American Idol superstar, Clay Aiken, who has been involved in care giving issues himself and foundedrepparttar 109744 Bubel/Aiken Foundation.

Brunner’s community involvement throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties continues a few days later when she will speak atrepparttar 109745 FAU (Florida Atlantic University) campus on April 20th. The presentation will address options available to students inrepparttar 109746 Health Administration Degree programs. Brunner notes, “This is an important topic because students need to be aware that they can they seek employment from a large facility or health care institution, or look for entrepreneurial caregiving opportunities right in their own communities.”
