Recharge Your BatteryWritten by Steve Dimeck
It was 4:15PM on a Thursday when I arrived at hair salon to get my haircut. My hair appointment was at 5PM but I arrived there quite early. As I set down in comfortable leather chair in little “waiting corner,” I looked down to my left with an intention to pick a magazine from big basket that was filled with maybe over 50 magazines. I sorted through magazines but nothing would catch my eye. There were so many different magazines; I couldn’t decide which one to pick and read while waiting. Then, as I lifted a big batch of magazines to choose from, one of them fell down on floor. I immediately dropped all other magazines back into basket and took one that fell on floor. The beautiful view of a tropical island in background, surrounded by crisp clear water covering entire cover of magazine, got my attention. The magazine contained a large number of photos from tropical islands, vacation resorts and everything tropical you can imagine. I submerged myself into pictures so much that 40 minutes went by like 4 seconds. When I was all done with haircut, I asked Isabella (the hair stylist) if I could take magazine. She said that it wouldn’t be a problem because anyway they recycle magazines at end of each month when they bring new ones in. The magazine is called Islands. It was a June 2004 issue. When I went home I put it next to my computer and until today’s day, it’s still sitting there. I look through it periodically. All my life I’ve lived in northern hemisphere of planet, and winter is definitely not my favorite season. Not to even mention driving headaches when we get dumped with a few feet of snow. The tropical theme has always been a dream place of mine. So, every time I feel down, discouraged, marketing plan isn’t working well, a goal doesn’t get accomplished, problems and obstacles appearing out of nowhere, motivation is down, no inspiration, world is coming down on me.....

Banana RepublicLike a cat I slumber, blissfully unencumbered, Through eighty per cent of my allotted span, Occasionally awoken, when dissent is spoken, And I invent another cunning five year plan, Lately it was pensions, that were being mentioned, So I borrowed from French and Robespierre, Scrap all that went before, saved by tooth and claw, And let my all equal Citizens appear, Currently it is time, for me to be in my prime, For there is another election looming, I have to appear sincere, for part of this coming year, And assure everyone that everything is booming, Never mind strict quotas, Ive imported multitudes of voters, And told them which party let them stay, Though Ive rigged postal vote, and defamed everyone of note, You never know what might happen on day. So to be on safe side, I swallow all my pride, And allow my people to hear my hallowed voice, And roll out charade, put on facade, And even make believe they have a choice, Next time around crown, will be trampled underground, House of Lords and Lord Chancellor history, With other Chancellor gone, I alone will soldier on, Yes, then there will only ever be me, Ill hold elections for you, as all dictators do, And fill positions with those that grease my palm, As for civil unrest, there is always house arrest, Or secret imprisonment for those that mean me harm. So from national nursery, via educational history, You can in time join New Labour Youth, Be taught gay is fun, and state is number one, And any other opinion is untruth. Ask media if unsure, or philosophically impure, Brainwashing British Citizens is their forte, They will surely put you right, or visit you at night, Either way they will stop you being naughty. Meekly follow all rules, laid down in our schools, Where state is all and learning is suppressed, And you can safely be ignored, not seen as being flawed, Just be another number like rest. Better far to be, a part of mediocrity, Within your state and seeds they have sown Than to disappear, or to live in constant fear, For having a mind and will all of your own.
