Overcoming Fear of Change

Written by Chris Green

One ofrepparttar biggest problems we can encounter when we consider making changes to our life is fear. Even thoughrepparttar 122699 changes we want to make will bring more happiness by considerably enhancing our lives, fear will still raise its head to try and stop us in our tracks.

Why does this happen?

It’s all to do withrepparttar 122700 wayrepparttar 122701 subconscious perceives survival. It knows that you are in a safe position and that survival is more or less guaranteed if you carry on inrepparttar 122702 same way. As soon as you start to consider making changes to your life, your subconscious mind will playrepparttar 122703 fear card. You are leavingrepparttar 122704 comfort zone and boy-oh-boy, does it not like it! Not one little bit!

This is no joke. It happens to millions of people and this fear ruins their dreams for a better life. And here’srepparttar 122705 danger of giving in to this fear: You can feel as though you’re stuck in a rut – kind of like life is passing you by. Asrepparttar 122706 years pass, these feelings can become magnified and you can become filled with regret over opportunities you didn’t grasp.

I don’t know about you butrepparttar 122707 last feeling I want before I breathe my last is that I didn’t take advantage of opportunities because I gave in to my fears. Because let’s be honest here, we can generate excuse after excuse to save face and gain sympathetic understanding from our families and loved ones. But we can’t fool ourselves. Deep down inside, we knowrepparttar 122708 truth.

If you want to achieve a dream, you are going to have to understand and overcome fear. There’s a lot to it, much more than I can cover in one article. But for now, I want to look at an ally of fear, an ally that you can easily defeat.

When we’re inrepparttar 122709 comfort zone, one thing re-enforces it more than any other. Routine. Performingrepparttar 122710 same habits and behaviors on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The more routines you have in your life, repparttar 122711 harder it is to embrace life-enhancing changes. Any break from routines is met with strong resistance by your mind.

This is security. Andrepparttar 122712 more secure you feel, repparttar 122713 morerepparttar 122714 mind believes we are safe, that survival is assured. Introducing change triggersrepparttar 122715 fear response because your subconscious mind perceives a threat to your survival. A great technique to combat this is to demonstrate that your conscious mind is in control. You do this by adoptingrepparttar 122716 axiom that change is essential to growth. The more you embrace change, repparttar 122717 more color you add to your life. The more you grow, repparttar 122718 more happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment you feel.

Ofrepparttar many questions you ask yourself every day, one question is by far more important than all ofrepparttar 122698 rest put together. It is a powerful question that will bring clarity, motivation and purpose to your whole existence.

The question is simply this: “What do I want from life?” Providing a clear, precise answer brings total focus to our lives. But very few people can.

Why?

OK, I meet many people through my professional and social lives and what amazes me is that very few of them can answer this question. Most of them answer in abstract terms, such as:

 “I want money. Lots of money.”  “I want to be happy.”  “I want a beautiful house.”  “I want a sports car.”  “I just want to meet someone, fall in love and settle down.”  “I DON’T REALLY KNOW.”

Amazingly, repparttar 122699 last one isrepparttar 122700 most common. Andrepparttar 122701 problem with all ofrepparttar 122702 above answers is that they aren’t really answers at all. Because none of them give a specific, precise answer.

Just why do so few people know precisely what they want from life? There are a number of reasons, here’s just 3 ofrepparttar 122703 more common:

Number one on our list is FEAR. To know precisely what you want out of life means you have to go and get it. You have to take action, make changes and work hard to manifest your desires into reality. You can’t hide behind abstracts any longer. This stark truth andrepparttar 122704 changes needed can be frightening. But you must seerepparttar 122705 whole process of getting what you want as enjoyable and rewarding and not as a threat. Next on our list is HARD WORK. Identifying exactly what you want from life requires quite a bit of effort. And of course, if you want to achieve your goals, you have to work hard by investing time and toil every day. Many people simply aren’t prepared to put in a significant effort to get what they want. Are you?
