One Would Think That We Would Be Safer In The Comfort Of Our Own Homes!

Written by Bruce Bowery

Have you ever given any thought torepparttar fact that you might be causing more harm than good while using your consumable products? I know that we have used household cleaners and personal care products for decades, so why am I bringing this issue up now? If we do not educate ourselves on this topic, then inrepparttar 110838 end, we have no one else to blame but ourselves. The plain and simple truth is that manufacturing companies spend millions of dollars on advertising their products every year. We are blasted on a daily basis with commercials and ads regarding our consumable products. Forrepparttar 110839 most part, we also believe that if we want to have cleaner houses and look our personal best, then we NEED to have, buy, and use these types of products. Have you ever takenrepparttar 110840 time to research exactly what you are either inhaling or absorbing through your skin whenever you use these products? The sad fact is thatrepparttar 110841 majority of us have never given that point any thought. Why, because we do not know that there is any serious health risks associated withrepparttar 110842 vast majority of these products. We have never been told through these ads or commercials thatrepparttar 110843 chemicals and toxins used in making these products can be potentially dangerous to our health. Manufacturers are only mandated or required to listrepparttar 110844 potential concerns associated with their particular product, such as: use caution, wear protective gloves, use safety glasses, may be corrosive, or whetherrepparttar 110845 product is classified as poison etc. Only 1 percent of TOXINS are required to be listed on labels. According torepparttar 110846 National Research Council, “no toxic information is available for more than 80% ofrepparttar 110847 chemicals in everyday-use products. Less than 20% have been tested for acute effects and less than 10% have been tested for chronic, reproductive or mutagenic effects.” A more alarming issue revolves around our personal care products. Back in 1989, a House Senate Subcommittee askedrepparttar 110848 National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to analyze 2,093 chemicals used in personal care products. There results were as follows: 884 ofrepparttar 110849 ingredients were found to be toxic. Of these, 778 can cause acute toxicity, 146 can cause tumors, 218 can cause reproductive complications, 314 can cause biological mutations, and 376 can cause skin and eye irritations. Now, I will say that there are several factors to consider while determining whether or not a toxin actually causes harm in any particular situation, such as: potency, repparttar 110850 rate of exposure;repparttar 110851 dosage, and individual sensitivity. We all are very aware ofrepparttar 110852 irritations to our skin, eyes and throats, when using some of these products, but are you aware that those irritations may just berepparttar 110853 tip ofrepparttar 110854 iceberg? Toxins are known to cause a variety of harms and health issues. The EPA has acknowledged thatrepparttar 110855 air inside our homes is 3 to 70 times more polluted thanrepparttar 110856 air outside our homes. The EPA has also acknowledged that toxic chemicals in household cleaners are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than outside pollutants. What are some ofrepparttar 110857 other risks involved with using these types of products? Cancers, anemia, leukemia, liver, lung and kidney problems, learning and developmental issues, reproductive issues, and death are just some ofrepparttar 110858 health issues associated with these toxins. Now it appears that more doctors and scientist are discovering that there may be more correlation betweenrepparttar 110859 usage of household chemicals andrepparttar 110860 increase in chronic illnesses, especially involving children. Such illnesses such as cancer, ADD, and asthma have been on a steady increase overrepparttar 110861 past few decades among our children. Now you may be wondering what a toxin is, and a toxin can be defined as harmful chemicals or substances that occur in nature and or are manufactured. You also may be wondering what toxins are commonly found in our homes. Listed below are some ofrepparttar 110862 toxins most commonly found in our homes, just to name a few.

Making time for your kids…It’s more important than you think. If a child grows up feeling as if they were an after thought, or that they just don’t matter that much to you it directly affects who they become as adults. Children need a sense of self that can not be bought atrepparttar nearest toy store, and can’t be played inrepparttar 110837 DVD player.

We all haverepparttar 110838 best intentions when it comes to our children. A majority of parents have to work between 40 and 60 hours a week just to provide for their children. As a former “Latch Key Kid” myself, who attended daycare untilrepparttar 110839 age of 12 before being able to riderepparttar 110840 bus home by myself to care for my 8 year old sister until my mother came home 3 hours later; I know all too well what it’s like when your parents are always at work. What made it worse was that byrepparttar 110841 time my parents did come home, they were absolutely exhausted. In hindsight, I can see why they did it-to provide for us and make sure we hadrepparttar 110842 things we wanted and needed- but back then I didn’t know, and it made me feel pretty crummy.

Unfortunately, byrepparttar 110843 time children really grasprepparttar 110844 reason that their parents are always so busy, they likely have their own children and are also working all ofrepparttar 110845 time. The good news is, there are some things that you can do starting today that can let your children know that above all else they matter to you.

Try to give your children at least 30 minutes every day doing things that reassure them, and when doing so make sure to talk in a pleasant (but real) voice, make eye contact, and listen to what they are saying. Show no anger or disappointment in this very special time slot. Here are some ideas:

-Get onrepparttar 110846 floor and play with them. You will be amazed at just how differentrepparttar 110847 world looks fromrepparttar 110848 floor, and you’re coming down to their level which they LOVE. -Be silly. For no reason at all, start singing a silly song, talk with a funny accent, or walk inrepparttar 110849 room with a bowl on your head-just do something silly that will catch them off guard and keep being silly! Teach them funny jokes or songs you remember from your childhood.
