Net Novice No More

Written by Jesse S. Somer

A relative novice when it came torepparttar Internet, not too long ago I didn’t have a clue where to start when trying to create a website or why I hadrepparttar 118650 need for one. Luckily though, with time and practice, it became apparent.

Having a website has advantages, providing solutions to a wide range of everyday problems. Websites can be used as a personal identity to promote you or what you offer, torepparttar 118651 world, be it global, local or personal.

Web hosting, where one puts a web presence and stores it along with pictures, pages and 'tricks'. As a novice I feltrepparttar 118652 need to have things explained to me inrepparttar 118653 simplest of terms and I know I’m not alone.

For all those out there who quietly sink into their seats when friends or colleagues start discussingrepparttar 118654 "Net", I am going to explain to you, what web hosting is. Simply.

The web page. This is a document file, created by a web Editor software such as FrontPage or DreamWeaver. It is your first step, this isrepparttar 118655 page you will view. It will hold your pictures, your logos, your text, your links to other places and your Internet 'tricks and fancies'.

You then need to create your content, as above, pictures, logos, text etc. Once compiled, as you have with other computer design programs, you need to takerepparttar 118656 images and web pages and find a web host. This a service provider that offers space for your 'Net presence'.

Now ...once you have negotiated a 'rent' for your presence onrepparttar 118657 providers land (his servers), you will need to "move in". You will be givenrepparttar 118658 key, a secret password and ID that only you will know, which will unlock your "plot" of web presence.

Blog Problems

Written by Jesse S. Somer

What inrepparttar world is up withrepparttar 118649 world of blogs? Blogs are meant to be this great new technology where people can share their ideas and interests with others aroundrepparttar 118650 globe. As far as I’m concernedrepparttar 118651 state of blogs is one of chaos, confusion, and anti-interactivity. The other day I decided to do some research onrepparttar 118652 Web and try to connect to some blog writers out there that interested me. Let me tell you it was not an enjoyable task as I had envisioned. I spent four painful hours surfing through around a thousand on-line journals, and I found only a few that interested me. What are we doing out there people?

First of all, just getting to a blog can be a pain inrepparttar 118653 arse. For example, you type inrepparttar 118654 words ‘Philosophy blogs’ and a whole bunch of sites come up. Some are conglomerate sites with thousands of journals, butrepparttar 118655 area you’re searching for may have only one blog in it! This is because they separaterepparttar 118656 blogs into a million different categories, like ‘love’, ‘lovers’, ‘lovable’ etc. Why not have just a few main categories to choose from?

The next problem isrepparttar 118657 content. People with ‘philosophical’ blogs are having personal chats with their mates aboutrepparttar 118658 local dance competition on Tuesday! Why not go to a chat room if you just want to talk to your friends? Blogs are supposed to be a personal viewpoint expressed torepparttar 118659 whole Web community. Wouldn’t you actually like to meet more people like yourself? How is this going to happen if you talk in strange uncommon slang and acronyms that you and your friends can only understand? Please stick torepparttar 118660 subject at hand, and take it at least half seriously.

Another major problem isrepparttar 118661 fact that you can find a really cool blog that sparks an interest, but then find thatrepparttar 118662 writer hasn’t added an entry in over a year! What’s it doing onrepparttar 118663 Net? Have these people passed away? I seriously doubt it, as there are so many blogs in this ‘lost’ state. Having a blog is a responsibility; it’s a shared diary forrepparttar 118664 whole community. How can someone form a relationship if you only write in your blog once a millennium?
