My StoryWritten by Shauna McKenzie
My name is Shauna. In spring of 2001, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. What a shock this was, not only for me but also for my entire family, especially my husband. I’ve always been health conscious, eating well and working out at gym, so consequently, I never saw this coming. My symptoms were frightening. They ranged from vision loss with numbness and tingling in my limbs, to complete paralysis in my left leg. The hardest thing I had to deal with though was a mind-numbing exhaustion that just would not go away no matter how much sleep I would get. I literally felt as though I was weighted down with bricks. Even though I took a lot of anti-fatigue medications, I still needed to sleep as much as eighteen hours in a day, just to be able to function. In spite of this and to my frustration, I would still awaken in a fog. I felt I was missing out on my life. Sleeping was absolute last thing I wanted to do. If I decided to push it though and sleep less, I would pay price by having to sleep more to “undo damage” of overdoing it. I found myself becoming bitter with my new reality. Then in spring of 2003, a friend introduced me to a company called Usana Health Sciences. He urged me to try their vitamins because he knew I had MS. He said Usana products had dramatically improved his children’s health. At first, I was skeptical since I had already tried a lot of other vitamins with no success. Then I thought to myself, “what do I have to lose?” I decided to give it a try and thank God I did. To make a long story short, I found out that not all vitamins are created equal. After less than two months, fatigue disappeared completely, to be replaced by an unbelievable surge of crazy energy. It amazes me to imagine how powerful these vitamins must be to make such an impact on someone as unhealthy as me. My fatigue was absolutely debilitating! It was so bad I even had to go on disability insurance.
| | Male Menopause Symptoms – Is the Problem “You’re Just Getting Older”?Written by David Buster
The first question a man asks about male menopause is usually about declining sexual function. Can I continue to perform? Will I still enjoy sex? Will sex even matter to me in future? Somewhere is his 40’s, maybe 50’s, a man may notice that things are not same as they used to be in bedroom and he begins to worry. While male menopause symptoms are not just about sex, concerns in this area are real and with reason. In United States alone, perhaps as many as 30 million men will at sometime suffer from erectile dysfunction, most recognized male menopause symptom. And if other symptoms are added in, it’s clear that tens of millions of men in their 40’s and older may need treatment. Here are common symptoms of male menopause: • Declining Sex Drive - not only does man have less interest in sex, he will also have sex less frequently. From an average of 3-4 times a week in his twenties, sexual frequency declines to about once a week or so in his fifties to 1-2 times a month in his late seventies. A related male menopause symptom is that sex becomes less enjoyable for man. • Fatigue and Less Energy - once able to be on go all day and into night, now male’s activity pace slows considerably. The same physical activity now takes longer with considerably more effort. • Body Composition - if a man is sedentary, he will lose about 10% of his lean body mass every 10 years after age 30. Lean body mass loss means loss of muscle! This muscle loss is generally accompanied by an increase in fat mass and a tendency to become obese. And obesity is related to numerous health and wellness problems. • Forgetfulness, Inability to Concentrate - although anyone can occasionally forget, there's a noticeable change in ability to remember in male menopause. And it becomes more difficult to focus, which ordinarily is one of strengths of a man. • Feelings of Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Irritability - events or actions of others that once were dealt with easily by male now become more difficult to deal with during male menopause.
