Mom's JoyWritten by Demetria Zinga
“Mom, what am I going to do?” I moaned as I shared with my mother my woes of hour. I was working a full time job and my heart was aching to be home with my daughter instead. This was a pretty difficult decision for me, especially since my job was providing a source of financial security for me and my family. Without it, we would definitely be in a rut to make ends meet. Very calmly she replied “Did you seek Lord about it?” “Yes!” I cried, “and, well…I’m just not sure that He’d have me leave my family in a financial rut just so I could stay home with my daughter. What do you think?” The smile in her voice when she spoke eased my mind, and I knew immediately what I should do. Months later I had quit my job and was home with my daughter, raising her and being there to see her most precious moments and milestones. The Lord had protected our financial well being and had blessed my husband with a raise at his job. But before long, I was calling Mom again. “Mom?” I began slowly. Mom waited. “Well…” I hesitated, “I love being in school right now and everything, but…” and there I continued my woes of hour as Mom patiently and attentively listened to every word I spoke. And once again, she not only listened, but spoke words of truth to me that I knew only God could have given her to share with me for that very moment.I have never seen her falter. In face of adversity and moments of desperation, I have seen her call out to our Heavenly Father, and with such faith and trust in Him that it literally moves me. In midst of her troubled situations I have observed peace of God which resides upon her life and joy of Lord that radiantly shines from within.

“How am I going to make it? What am I going to do? Where will we get money?”Do these questions sound familiar to you? Are they perhaps, questions you’ve asked recently? Then welcome to club. I call it Anxiety Club. We’ve all been part of that club at some point in our lives. There are moments when bills need to be paid, but money is no where to be found. Situations occur in our lives, and we have to make really tough decisions that affect everyone involved. Sometimes we don’t see that light at end of tunnel and we feel trapped. So I’ve asked, “What do I do? What do I say? How will I solve this problem?” and last but not least, “God, are you there?” The Anxiety Club always has a way of making you pay your dues even before you decide to discontinue your membership. You’ll pay through your emotions, your health, and spiritual well being. Anxiety and worry causes undue stress, not to mention a myriad of other negative things it does to your nervous system. By joining club, you could end up be an emotional wreck, and spiritually depleted of your joy, energy, and enthusiasm for serving Christ. So you want out of club? “But how do I get out?” you say. I mean, it’s one thing to wish yourself into a peaceful state of mind, but reality of it is, you STILL have bills that are unpaid. Life still goes on. Okay, true, but words of our Savior sum it all up: “Do not worry about our life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and body more than clothing? …Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature…?” In other words, worrying will not make situation better. Here’s a GREAT, practical solution to problems we face: “Have faith in God…”, quoted by Savior Himself.
