First of all, it gets your name out in a new way. For instance, I'm a personal and professional development coach, and so its natural that I would offer further avenues for development in addition to personal coaching. The courses I offer reinforce that I'm an expert in my field. They also give client something extra they can do on their own if they're serious about their personal and professional development.

Distance learning allows you to reach different markets for potential clients. Offering a teleclass on one of your topics of expertise will reach a whole new market and get your name out to a whole new group of people.

Listing your course on blackboard.com will reach yet another group of interested learners and potential clients. Some learn best by listening to spoken word (teleclasses) and others prefer to read. Some are just looking around, and may click through to your website and get interested in something else entirely!

How you construct your courses and content is up to you, and within course itself there are many naturally-opccurring ways to market too.

How often has someone said to you, "Oh. I didn't know you do that too." Within course you can promote other products and services that you offer. For instance, in my Emotional Intelligence (EQ) course, it's quite natural for me to mention assessments student should take (I'm licensed to sell EQ-Map assessment), and opportunity for other courses I offer (on different competencies), and tapes and products I sell related to EQ. Once you know EQ, why not buy one of my mugs that says "EQ is better than IQ!" to help spread word?

1: ADD SEASONAL CONTENT

Add seasonal content that fits in with rest of your site. This could mean creating an amusing site survey, that relates to seasonal event. Or it could mean writing relevant editorial about seasonal event. Or you could just add some seasonal resources to your website, like images or clip art or electronic cards.

I run a shopping directory, so for Mother's Day I simply decided to create a Mothers Day shopping page. (I'm a member of several affiliate programs and simply researched each and every program until I found what I considered to be best and most suitable sites.)

But you don't have to have a shopping-related site to offer seasonal gifts for sale. You can find suitable gift items whatever your site is about, and a suitable affiliate program allowing you to offer goods for sale.

For example, you might run a Tom Jones fan site (!). It wouldn't be too difficult to create a page of links that offered posters, books, and music of ageless Welsh pop star, appropriate to seasonal event. And if you didn't want to 'sell' on your site, you could simply reprint lyrics of his most suitable song. The content-possibilities are endless, and only limited by your imagination.

Just offer content that you know your site visitors will enjoy.
