Let Go Of The Past

Let Go Of The Past by John Colanzi

Have you ever walked by a low fence and wondered whyrepparttar dog inside will run to it, but won't jump over, no matter how many times he runs to it barking and growling?

The odds arerepparttar 131277 dog was placed insiderepparttar 131278 fence as a puppy. He grows up seeing that fence as being higher than it is.

He learned as a puppy that no matter how many times he tries to clear it, it's just too high.

Over time he gradually tries less often, until eventually he quits trying. He just knows he'll never clear that fence.

The same thing happens to us overrepparttar 131279 years. We try to reach a goal and fail.

We muster uprepparttar 131280 courage to try again and fall just short ofrepparttar 131281 mark. Gradually that fence becomes higher in our minds, than it really is.

It's a gradual insidious process and we seldom notice it's happening. Over time that fence becomes more imposing.

Our efforts become a little less enthusiastic. We start building fences in our mind and like that little puppy we begin to break.

We begin a new goal with so many doubts. We just know we won't reach it, and so we don't.

We start thinking to ourselves, I knew I couldn't do it.

Our doubts become a self fulfilling prophecy.

The Truth About Lying

Written by John Boe

There are some people who can’t tell a lie, many who can’t tellrepparttar truth, and unfortunately, most people can’t tellrepparttar 131276 difference. Can you tell when someone is pullingrepparttar 131277 wool over your eyes? As children, we were raised to tellrepparttar 131278 truth and taught that honesty is alwaysrepparttar 131279 best policy. We were told stories about George Washington and Honest Abe Lincoln to reinforcerepparttar 131280 virtue of truthfulness. However, as we grew older, we realized thatrepparttar 131281 truth sometimes hurts and that few relationships could surviverepparttar 131282 harsh reality of brutal honesty. To keep from hurting others, we learnedrepparttar 131283 usefulness of telling “white lies.” Onrepparttar 131284 other hand, self-serving lies can be damaging and are frequently used for personal gain or to avoid punishment.

Scientists looking for a reliable way to expose liars inventedrepparttar 131285 polygraph machine, also known asrepparttar 131286 lie detector, inrepparttar 131287 1920’s. While certainly not a perfect machine, it is estimated thatrepparttar 131288 lie detector has a ninety percent accuracy rate. While polygraph evidence is not permitted in a courtroom, repparttar 131289 CIA, FBI, police, and employers routinely use it as an interviewing tool. In addition to using a lie detector, many law enforcement agencies videotape interviews in order to evaluate body language gestures in detail. Gestures or expressions that occur in less than one second are called micro gestures. Micro gestures are extremely difficult to observe unless they have been recorded on videotape and played back in slow motion. Body language experts have identified and categorized thousands of human gestures and their associated meanings. It might surprise you to know that research indicates over 65% of our communication is done nonverbally. In fact, studies show that nonverbal communication has a much greater impact and reliability thanrepparttar 131290 spoken word.
