How to write a good research paper

Written by Janet Ilacqua

A good academic paper starts out with a clearly defined topic which is neither too broad or too narrow. For example, "Cactus" would be too broad a topic. Onrepparttar other hand, A topic is too narrow if you can't find any information about it. For example, suppose your foreign language subject to, "foreign language policy in South Dakota." Although you might have a strong interest in this topic, South Dakota may not have a specific policy about foreign languages. If you have chosenrepparttar 109311 topic, "teaching Chinese in elementary schools," and your research attempts have been fruitless, it may be that you are considering a topic that no one else has previously presented. In other words, no one has determined that Chinese should be a major language taught as commonly as Spanish or French. Using an outline can help you organize your material and can also help you discover connections between pieces of information that you weren't aware of when you first conceivedrepparttar 109312 topic of your paper, After you have identified a topic and prepare an outline ofrepparttar 109313 project, you can begin to gather information from authoritative reference sources: pertinent books, encyclopedias, and articles in magazines and journals. Be cautious when using material fromrepparttar 109314 Internet. Before citing Internet sources, checkrepparttar 109315 credentials ofrepparttar 109316 writer. Are they associated with a university or well-known corporation? What experience and training do they have inrepparttar 109317 field?

Kick Start Your Mentor Program to Stoprepparttar Bullying by Paula McCoach, School Counselor

Whining about bullying and how rottenrepparttar 109310 bullies were andrepparttar 109311 poor students that they bullied used to be one of my regular activities. "We have to do something to help these kids" bothrepparttar 109312 bullies and their victims," I would whine. But for years, I just talked to these kids and sent them on their way. After I got sick and tired of being sick and tired of talking about this - I did do something! I started a mentor program for these students!

Behavior referrals, grades, social problems, and poor achievement were our starting criteria for being inrepparttar 109313 program. Almost every staff member inrepparttar 109314 building had 2-3 mentees - everyone fromrepparttar 109315 administration, teachers, and counselors torepparttar 109316 educational assistants, cafeteria workers and custodians. Over 150 students were in that mentor program which began in 1998.

Each mentor was given a mentor folder with a permission slip, a brochure aboutrepparttar 109317 program, a profile sheet, and tips on being a mentor, a pencil and a "Welcome Back to School"card. The profile sheet identified their mentees, homeroom teacher, grade, birthday, and area of concern. Also included inrepparttar 109318 packet was a birthday card and pencil forrepparttar 109319 mentor to give their mentees.

Giving gifts was left of torepparttar 109320 discretion ofrepparttar 109321 mentor. Some mentees came to expect gifts andrepparttar 109322 purpose ofrepparttar 109323 mentor relationship was diminished. The kids came to expect them and thought that they were ‘entitled' to getting things fromrepparttar 109324 mentor. I had students asking me to be inrepparttar 109325 mentor program because they wanted to get stuff.

We really learned that first year to reinforce thatrepparttar 109326 mentor program was about improving behavior and grades to be more successful in school - and we had to keep tellingrepparttar 109327 kids that too!

As all of you know, people who work in a school are super busy, and we found that having even just 2 mentees was too much. It was difficult to developrepparttar 109328 relationship and effect change becauserepparttar 109329 mentors were stretched too thin. So inrepparttar 109330 years to come, and we are in our 7th year ofrepparttar 109331 mentor program, we have assigned everyone only 1 mentee.
