How to pick an online sportsbook

Written by Bill Dozer, SBR Analyst

This is a simple Question and Answer that tackles questions from How to pick an Online Sportsbook to What are some warning signs that my book may be in trouble.

Q. What type of sportsbook is right for me?

A. There are many very good books out there that get bad feedback becauserepparttar player is better suited somewhere else. Most books offer some kind of perk to drawrepparttar 133233 type of player they would like to manage. Ifrepparttar 133234 player is looking to make one $200 wager onrepparttar 133235 Superbowl and then withdraw it does not matter how reducedrepparttar 133236 juice is if they are going to pay $15 to processrepparttar 133237 payout. Many books will charge players for small money transfers since they targetrepparttar 133238 larger player with other perks. The small superbowl bettor is better off at a book that charges full price but has free withdrawals yet charges full vig. A bettor who is going to play out 500 or more through out a season would come away with more paying less over that time. Long term investors should look at long term returns whilerepparttar 133239 short term smaller player may be better off playing through a nice bonus and takingrepparttar 133240 free payout. Many bonuses are more lucrative inrepparttar 133241 short term than reduced juice.

Q. What factors should I look at when choosing a book?

A. After deciding which type of book is right for you, choosing stability should berepparttar 133242 first priority. If you decide a big bonus will benefit your playing stylerepparttar 133243 most that does not mean you should hunt outrepparttar 133244 largest one and send your hard earned cash

Q. What methods of transferring money are there and what do they cost?

Q. Why should I have more than one sportsbook?

A. Many online books experience downtime atrepparttar 133245 hands of extortionists. A back up book is a must of you do not want to be left without a way to make you bet on football Sunday. For those who are not playing for simple entertainment, line and price shopping is a must in order to turn a profit. It is also smart not to keep all your eggs inrepparttar 133246 same basket.

Q. What are some warning signs that my book may be in trouble?

A. Most books that have failed have shown signs of floundering. The best advice one can give is to take not of inconsistencies. If your book performs like Datek.com and suddenly looks like a swimsuit site you know someone is shaking things up internally. If its not broke don’t fix it? Signs to look for which you do not want to see simultaneously may include… sudden huge bonuses, spreads that are different than all other books, desperate marketing techniques such as cold calling and mass direct mailing, falling stock prices, slow-pay rumors and extended website down time. As you become more in tune with what makes a quality sports book you will be able to spot individual warning signs on your own. Playing withrepparttar 133247 very top shops can eliminaterepparttar 133248 anxiety that comes with sending your money to an unknown book.

Q. Should I buy picks fromrepparttar 133249 pros?

A. see article JOE TOUT at http://todayslines.com/Articles/366.aspx

Q. What win % do I need to win hit to win overall?

Q. Is online gambling legal?

A. When an online wager is placed when does it actually become a bet? If one’s opinion isrepparttar 133250 wager is being sent where betting is legal then one can argue gambling is legal. If you are a U.S. official you are likely to sayrepparttar 133251 bet takes place when you click submit in your home. Opponents of online gambling are trying to fix this grey area by including internet use inrepparttar 133252 Wire Act which was originally established to make calling bets in to others illegal. Currently gambling promoters are under fire. Prosecutingrepparttar 133253 millions of online gamblers is unrealistic at this time.

Q. What does -110 afterrepparttar 133254 line mean?

A. This representsrepparttar 133255 10% extra that must be wagered to win $100. The 10% is often referred to as vig/vigorish, commission orrepparttar 133256 standard price to place a bet. The basic idea is that ifrepparttar 133257 bookie books one event and takes $1000 wagered on opposing teams he will pocket $100 forrepparttar 133258 service. Of course, many online bookies make their profit onrepparttar 133259 long term prices as equal betting on opposing opinions is not assured.

Q. What is a money line?

Mission Impossible - Construction of a backcountry ski lodge

Written by Lockie Brown

How can a 9300sq.ft. ski lodge be built in just six months when it took over three months to finish your downstairs bathroom? Now, placerepparttar project atrepparttar 133232 5250 ft elevation inrepparttar 133233 Canadian Rocky Mountains, 90 km fromrepparttar 133234 nearest paved road, and it’s easy to think, “Mission Impossible”

In July 2002,repparttar 133235 four owners of Chatter Creek Mountain Lodges faced a plot of cleared land and a pile of almost 300 green spruce logs, 100 of them having been peeled by hand. Byrepparttar 133236 end of December 2002,repparttar 133237 owners had welcomed 24 clients to their new lodge. The beds were made, repparttar 133238 larder was full, repparttar 133239 bar was stocked andrepparttar 133240 hot tub was steaming. Vertebrae Lodge was open for business!

Chatter Creek Mountain Lodges is a snowcat skiing and snowboarding tour operator based in Golden, British Columbia. Chatter Creek offers full-service backcountry skiing experiences for powder snow skiers and snowboarders. Intermediate and advanced skiing groups are expertly guided throughoutrepparttar 133241 130 sq. km operating area. Guests ride in comfortable heated snowcats to experience skiing and riding on a high glacier, in open alpine bowls and through forest glades.

For two years, Chatter Creek hosted groups of 12 clients in their original Spruce Lodge. Guests enjoyed dormitory style accommodation, outdoor plumbing and a close relationship with one another and with staff. The “Spruce Goose” became a special place to many guests who fondly remember their early cat skiing days at Chatter Creek.

The new Vertebrae Lodge, named after a spectacular nearby ridge, accommodates 24 guests in 12 comfortable bedrooms, each with private bathroom. The lodge boasts well-furnished sitting areas, and a large dining hall with a vaulted ceiling. It has a well-equipped commercial kitchen, a large drying room for boots and outside clothes, massage rooms, a games room with a pool table, a well-stocked bar and an outdoor hot tub, complete with bar service. Quite a step up from Spruce Lodge!

The Chatter Creek building site posed a challenge. The only building material within reach was green spruce fromrepparttar 133242 surrounding forest. There was no sand, no gravel, no cement and certainly no neighborhood lumberyard.

The nearest town is Golden, a 120 km drive torepparttar 133243 south. The nearest paved road is 90km away, at Donald. Access from Donald is first by logging road and then by a rough, boggy summer road that climbsrepparttar 133244 last 17 km. torepparttar 133245 lodge. Four wheel drive pickup trucks can makerepparttar 133246 trip in summer, whenrepparttar 133247 access road is dry but, inrepparttar 133248 spring, only tracked vehicles can get through, unassisted.

The owners, all ex-loggers, were prepared forrepparttar 133249 challenge. They had already brought a small Alaska-style sawmill torepparttar 133250 site, to build Spruce Lodge. The “Spruce Goose” had been completed following a two-year part-time effort. It was built of 5in. x 10in. square-sawn spruce beams. The new lodge would be built of round logs, with much longer and higher walls than any in Spruce Lodge, and with a much, much larger roof.

The Chatter Creek cat skiing business was so popular and guests were so enthusiastic thatrepparttar 133251 partners knew that they could expand to 24 clients. Certainly, they hadrepparttar 133252 terrain for it: 50 sq miles of glaciers, alpine slopes and bowls, and huge forested ridges. They already had a good network of winter roads for their snowcats, a good basis for an expanded operation. These roads extended from belowrepparttar 133253 lodge site, at aboutrepparttar 133254 4900-ft elevation, torepparttar 133255 top of Vertebrae Glacier at just under 10,000 ft. They traversed both sides ofrepparttar 133256 Chatter Creek watershed andrepparttar 133257 numerous ridges that provided thousands of acres of prime tree skiing.

The challenge was to buildrepparttar 133258 new lodge in one short summer. This would not be just a scaled up Spruce Lodge, but a large comfortable building with a reliable water system, extensive plumbing, a commercial kitchen, fire suppression and a septic system that would meet allrepparttar 133259 environmental codes. Could they do it in one summer? Financial constraints required it.

All throughrepparttar 133260 early spring, partners Dale and Dan selectively loggedrepparttar 133261 trees they would need, using snowcats to skid them torepparttar 133262 lodge site. Friends were brought in to help hand-peel logs with drawknives and peeling spuds. These logs would formrepparttar 133263 major walls. The remaining logs would be milled to provide beams and dimensional lumber for inside framing andrepparttar 133264 massive roof.

Meanwhile, partner Dave buried himself in plans and cost estimates and fretted about environmental and health and building codes, and lined up suppliers forrepparttar 133265 mechanical systems. The planning seemed to take forever. There were so many questions!

It was clear that some new equipment would be required to assistrepparttar 133266 construction. The building would have two floors topped by a large attic space. A crane was needed to liftrepparttar 133267 heavy logs into place. Other techniques were far too slow. Also, repparttar 133268 existing mill was far too small and too slow forrepparttar 133269 job. A much bigger and more accurate mill was needed.

A brand new computer-controlled Wood-Mizer sawmill was purchased. Its 45’ deck would handlerepparttar 133270 big logs andrepparttar 133271 cutting rate would providerepparttar 133272 needed throughput. Forrepparttar 133273 heavy lifting, a used 20 ton ex-army mobile crane was found. With a 90 ft boom, it would clearrepparttar 133274 high roof.

Getting this equipment torepparttar 133275 site in late spring was a challenge. The road was still wet and boggy in many places. The sawmill was loaded onto a Ford F450 that was towed byrepparttar 133276 bulldozer. With it’s 6ft. diameter tires it was hoped thatrepparttar 133277 four wheel drive crane could travel on it’s own. An excavator stood by to help.

It took three days to go just 14km. The crane got stuck time and again. The excavator repairedrepparttar 133278 road and dug outrepparttar 133279 crane when its great wheels sunk inrepparttar 133280 mud. It pushed and it towed, pullingrepparttar 133281 crane along as it struggled throughrepparttar 133282 deep mud. The long line of equipment inched its way uprepparttar 133283 road torepparttar 133284 Chatter Creek building site.

Gettingrepparttar 133285 equipment torepparttar 133286 site was one challenge, keeping it running would be another. The project relied on continuous operation ofrepparttar 133287 crane, repparttar 133288 mill andrepparttar 133289 venerable excavator. The sawmill was brand new and very reliable. However, repparttar 133290 mobile crane was an unknown with limited parts available andrepparttar 133291 excavator was a doddering geriatric having had constant use for many years. The partners could rely on no one but themselves to keep these machines in operation.

Byrepparttar 133292 second week of Julyrepparttar 133293 site was clear and level andrepparttar 133294 logs were ready. The foundations could be set. No other materials were at hand, sorepparttar 133295 largest available spruce butts were used, set upright in pits.

By mid-July,repparttar 133296 walls were started andrepparttar 133297 outline ofrepparttar 133298 lodge could be seen. There would be two bays, a 40ft x 40ft bay for two floors of bedrooms and baths and a 40ft x 50ft bay forrepparttar 133299 common space.
