How to Reverse the Signs of Aging through Healthy Eating: A brief guide to anti-aging foodsWritten by Reno Charlton
Growing old is an inevitable part of life. We all get older year by year, hair begins to go grey, wrinkles and line start to appear, and before we know it transition has occurred. We look in mirror one day and we have become old. However, it doesn’t happen like this for everyone. Some people have learned how to keep signs of aging at bay, so although they may be getting older in terms of years this isn’t reflected in skin. In fact, some people can reach their fifties and sixties and still look amazing – and without having to resort to surgery and chemical procedures. One of factors that can contribute to younger looking skin is our diet. What we eat can affect both our physical and mental well being, and by eating right foods you can improve health of everything from your joints and bones to your skin and hair. We’ve all heard saying, “You are what you eat.” Well, if you eat loads of unhealthy foods such as refined sugars and rich foods, you are going to end up looking and feeling unhealthy both inside and out. If you are eating healthy, nutritious, vitamin-rich foods, then you are more likely to enjoy healthy looking skin and body. Dr. Atkins’ Theory Dr. Robert Atkins has become world famous for his once-radical diet based on minimal carbohydrate consumption. However, this wasn’t Dr. Atkin’s only diet-based theory. He also wrote about what he claimed was an effective anti aging diet, which could reverse signs of aging. Atkins stated that a lifetime of eating rich, refined, processed foods is what often led to signs of aging, and that by assessing and changing our eating habits we could start to turn back clock. Atkins believes that in order to beat signs of aging we need to eat more protein and fewer refined carbohydrates. He recommends eating plenty of nuts and sunflower seeds, which are rich in protein and in recommended vitamins C and E. These vitamins contain anti aging properties that will help keep your skin healthy and retain more elasticity and resilience, which resultantly cuts down on wrinkles and lines. Dr Atkins believes that a healthy diet that is rich in right nutrients and vitamins can help to reverse signs of aging in skin as well as in brain and other parts of body. Recommended foods There are a number of foods, vitamins, minerals, and supplements that are known to slow or delay signs of aging both in terms of skin and brain. Some of most well-known anti aging foods that are recommended include: Olive Oil: This contains antioxidants that can help to slow down cell damage and deterioration, therefore keeping skin looking fresher and younger. This can also help with joints and internal organs as well as skin. Seaweed: This contains a valuable source of Iodine, which helps to produce a hormone called thyroxin. This hormone stimulates nervous system, which helps to slow down damage and oxidization of cells. Various fruits and vegetables: These can be rich in antioxidants, which play a large part in delaying signs of aging. You can enjoy fruits and veggies such as: prunes, raisins, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, broccoli, spinach, beets, peppers, sprouts and more. Vitamins C & E: These are essential vitamins that can help delay signs of aging in skin and other parts of body. These vitamins can help to produce natural collagen, which helps skin to retain elasticity, thus reducing signs of wrinkles. You can find these vitamins in a range of foods, but can also buy them in supplement form. Water: This is one of most important considerations when it comes to your diet, as it is water than keeps us hydrated and alive. When we are younger, we all believe that we will have young, supple skin forever. That’s why it comes as something of a shock when we look in mirror one day and see appearance of first fine line or wrinkle, which then seems to rapidly spread across face. There are many things that can contribute appearance of wrinkles, lines, blotches and other blemishes. Firstly, of course, it is a natural process for aging skin because as we grow older our skin elasticity gets weaker so it is harder for skin to spring back into place. Other factors can include:• Smoking • Unprotected sun exposure (UV rays) • Stress • Poor facial/skin care No matter how old we are, we all want to enjoy benefits of healthy skin – that’s why anti aging skincare industry has become a multi-billion dollar one. The good news is that you can use natural skin care combined with a change in lifestyle to improve texture, tone, and feel of your skin, and to reduce lines and wrinkles that can make your skin look aged. Home remedies and a healthy lifestyle can help you feel and look younger We’ve all heard of ‘old wives tales’ and many people treat them with severe skepticism. But, as saying goes, there is no smoke without fire, and many of home remedies that are regarded as old wives tales really do have substance to them. You can look young without having to refinance your home by using some of these incredibly simple methods. Apple Juice You can treat fine lines, fine wrinkles, and cracked skin by applying juice of green apples to your face each day. You should leave juice on for around ten to fifteen minutes each day before rinsing off. This is one of those home remedies that can help you to look younger and add a real zing to your day. The aroma and zest of apples will put a spring in your step while juices get to work on your skin. Pineapple If you want another fruity way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, you can use juice or core of a fresh pineapple. Apply juice either by hand or by rubbing core over your face, and leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes. You can enjoy tropical aroma of this home remedy while pineapple juice helps to improve tone and texture of your skin, enabling you to feel fresh and look younger. Nourishing face mask If you want to enjoy a more luxurious home remedy, you can make up your own face mask. This will leave your skin feeling supple and revitalized, and can help you to look younger by replenishing your skin. You simply combine a couple of tablespoons of natural whole yogurt with a tablespoon of pure liquid honey. You then squeeze in some cucumber juice and give whole mixture a good stir. Chill mixture in fridge for a short while (you don’t want to get it too cold, but refrigerating it for a short while will help to ‘set’ it so that it won’t slide off your face). Apply mixture to your face liberally, lie back, pop a couple of cucumber slices onto your eyes to soothe them, and simple relax for about fifteen minutes. Afterwards, rinse facemask off your face and pat dry. You can then moisturize your face, and you should be left with smoother, softer, and suppler skin. You can do this once or twice a week to help keep your skin nourished and replenished. Cucumber If you are having problems with discolored age spots, you may find that cucumber juice is very effective in bleaching out these age spots. Simply combine cucumber juice with water (one tbsp of juice to two tbsp of water), and apply to affected areas twice daily. Dab solution on in morning and at night, and allow to dry on affected area. Papaya Juice This fruit contains an enzyme that can remove dead surface skin. So, if you have rough skin or blemishes, fresh papaya juice rubbed into skin can remove affected skin and leave you with softer, smoother skin.
