How to Get and Maintain a Great/Positive Attitude to Life (Part One)

Written by Craig Lock

"Attitudes arerepparttar colours with which we paintrepparttar 123776 pictures of our own story onrepparttar 123777 canvas of life." - Craig Lock and my great buddy, Dr Andrew Eastcott Gisborne, New Zealand

WHERE DO YOUR ATTITUDES COME FROM?

I believe that heredity (the genes that you inherit) have some part in forming attitudes. However, most important in shaping them, isrepparttar 123778 family environment, especially in your early childhood:repparttar 123779 impressionable years up torepparttar 123780 age of seven. Also critical are your lifetime experiences and events (whether happy or traumatic) in later years. What is happening in your life today, yesterday and all those past years. There are three areas of life in which your attitudes are formed.

1. A sense of BELONGING which is picked up before birth. The "vibes" inrepparttar 123781 womb ofrepparttar 123782 mother (hard to be a father in this process) will determine whether we are really wanted byrepparttar 123783 mother, and this can determine our degree of security (or insecurity) in later life. You sound just like a psychologist now, Craig.

2. Your sense of WORTH will be determined by your immediate family in your early childhood. They instil in you an inner sense of well-being and of being loved. The role of mothers and fathers is critical inrepparttar 123784 socialization process forrepparttar 123785 development of your attitudes. Their expectations of you play a big part in your life script.

3. Your sense of COMPETENCE will also originate inrepparttar 123786 family environment. That is why it is very important to praise and encourage children. If they are continually reprimanded, children will feel that they can't ever do things right. This then develops intorepparttar 123787 child thinking, "I am a person of no worth who is no good at anything." This attitude grows over time and can be re-inforced inrepparttar 123788 working environment. Even extremely competent business executives can feel insecure on a personal level and have difficulty in personal relationships.

DEVELOPING SUCCESS ATTITUDES

Golda Meier, an earlier Prime Minister of Israel, was once asked what made Israel such a success againstrepparttar 123789 might ofrepparttar 123790 united Arab armies. Israel, as you most probably know, is a small country set inrepparttar 123791 middle of a desert, with virtually no natural resources and no wealth. Meier replied, "All that my country has isrepparttar 123792 spirit of it's people. Ifrepparttar 123793 people lost their spirit, not evenrepparttar 123794 might ofrepparttar 123795 United States of America could save us." A right attitude throughoutrepparttar 123796 country overcame allrepparttar 123797 odds and insurmountable difficulties throughout it's turbulent history.

The top salesman for Bell telephones in America is a quadriplegic. Although he can only blink his eyes and open his mouth, his attitude and perseverance have made him num-ber one. (Stanford University after doing extensive research, said that all success is 87.5% as a result of your attitudes. Your skills, abilities and knowledge make uprepparttar 123798 other 12.5%).

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON(OR DOES IT?)...

Written by Craig Lock

I truly believe that, no matter how bad or traumatic an event appeared atrepparttar time, absolutely everything happens for a reason - to teach us lessons as we grow inrepparttar 123775 'scholarly journey' of life... and that this only means that something much bigger and better, something way more beautiful is waiting for you - somewhere, somehow!

God can weave a beautiful tapestry from evenrepparttar 123776 most tangled thread of a shattered life. It's just a matter of " hanging in byrepparttar 123777 fingernails" withrepparttar 123778 hidden strength of character, that we all have deep within us...and which is only severely tested in trials and tribulations. Likerepparttar 123779 'pearl of great' price, which is produced byrepparttar 123780 intense irritation ofrepparttar 123781 oyster. This suffering breeds our great strength of character, which is within every one of us.

Hard times strengthen our courage and our faith, even if we can't see it atrepparttar 123782 time through our severe pain. The important thing to remember is that we are MOVING, even when we appear to be "stuck deep inrepparttar 123783 mire ofrepparttar 123784 smelly brown stuff."

Sometimes our steps seem to be painfully slow, as I experienced for a LONG time in my personal journey, yet I never gave up. Faith kept me going all those long hard years inrepparttar 123785 wilderness. Now I can look back and see everything, allrepparttar 123786 events, traumatic and happy in my life, that have happened to me, seem to have prepared me for this unique path, that I'm on. They (+ my life choices made) have "pavedrepparttar 123787 way" for me to be where I am now in my life journey and they will "determine my destiny" inrepparttar 123788 days ahead.
