How to Create a Positive Environment in Your Home With VastuWritten by Robin Mastro
Our homes, carefully oriented, have power to give us comfort and security and to be one of our best investments. We spend a great deal of time and money to accomplish this. However, many of us do not know if we are creating a positive and life-supporting place to live and work. Many people have reported health and financial problems after they had moved into a home or have done home improvements. Unknowingly, we may be doing more harm than good! Vastu Shastra, architectural science with roots in ancient India, takes into account environmental factors that we may be unaware of yet influence quality of our lives. Vastu is oldest and most complete system of architecture known to man. It involves assessing all environmental influences that affect us, such as geopathic stress, five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space), sun, moon and planets in our solar system. It considers building orientation, placement of rooms, proportions and measurements, slope and shape of land, location of bodies of water and other environmental and geopathic influences. According to Vastu Shastra, sun creates different qualities of energy on its path from east to west. These different energies influence and enhance specific functions and activities that correspond with specific areas of your home. Where you enter a house or room, where you prepare and cook your food, where you sit while eating, direction in which you sleep, where you face while studying, placement of bathrooms and areas for socializing and meditating are more optimally supported in specific parts of your home than in others. Vastu not only takes into consideration environment in which we live, but how our environment affects health of our bodies and our ability to create in world. The earth is a magnetic force and is composed of five elements, as is our brain. The thalamus is relay center for all sensory and motor signals (except smell) in brain. Neurological research has shown that firing patterns of neurons in thalamus of brain function differently depending on which direction one is facing. Our mind then is interactive result of affect of magnetic field in our brain cells. By placing our bodies and environments in alignment with magnetic axis, we can think and act more in tune with nature, which can benefit us in most amazing ways. Our actions and decisions will be successfully supported by forces of nature, much like swimming with current of a stream is easier than swimming against it. We all know or can imagine what it is like to swim up-stream, meeting with resistance to our success!

Vastu is oldest and most complete system of architecture in world. The reason for its recent interest in U.S. is that Americans are demanding a better quality of life. There’s a greater awareness now that our physical environment does affect quality of our life. The effect of our environment can make us feel peaceful or stressful. There is a great deal of stress and pressure on people these days. The pace of life is so fast. Modern architecture only addresses function, comfort and aesthetics. The aim of Vastu is to create a peaceful, healing environment that supports growth and protects from non-life supporting influences, pollution and geopathic stress.Vastu is gaining acceptance in U.S. both by businesses and individuals. It is not as recognized as Feng Shui, but we predict it will be next hot trend here. There were three Vastu books published this year in U.S. and more are coming this year. There is presently an estimated 300 million dollars of Vastu related construction going on in U.S. Much of this is new construction related to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s recent emphasis on positive affects of building new Vastu houses. I had honor of being one of architects who worked with Maharishi in late 70’s on designing meditation academies, but this concept is cost-prohibitive for a large number of people. It is our belief at Vastu Creations that Vastu will grow more quickly when people understand that you don’t have to start from scratch, constructing a new environment or totally remodeling a pre-existing one, to obtain life-changing benefits. Vastu is not an all or nothing science. Americans like economical cures that bring results. There are simple Vastu corrections that people can do to any structure, anywhere in world, that will bring improvements in their lives. We’ve done many rectifications with wonderful results. Here are a few you might find interesting: "In February 2001, Seattle was rocked by a 6.8 earthquake, which caused significant destruction and loss in particular to a 5-square block area of downtown known as Pioneer Square. Our 5-story building in heart of Pioneer Square district was red-tagged being too dangerous to re-enter, because it sustained significant damage. The building inspectors told us that all main support beams in building had splintered and broken, and they were very amazed that building was still standing. All 15 of our employees who were in building when earthquake struck managed to make it out safely. They told fearsome stories of treacherous journey down 5 floors of stairs as stairs separated from walls swinging precariously and threatening to plunge to ground floor at any moment. To our amazement, for some strange reason, our building was still standing when shaking stopped. Two days before, I engaged Michael Mastro to perform a Vastu rectification in our office building in order to create a more positive and prosperous environment so that our Internet startup would survive. Thankfully, we did and Vastu appeared to work wonders since we all surprisingly walked away without a scratch." - Jeff P., President/CEO Validity Systems, Inc.
