HabitsWhat I Want For YouWritten by Miami Phillips
Think for a moment about your Self. Is there something that you would like to have, somewhere you would like to go, or something you would like to do? What is holding you back? I can probably guess at possible answers:"Not enough money." "Not enough time." "I couldn't do that!" At risk of going out on a limb, I am going to suggest that only thing holding you back from doing what you would like … is you! Every one of us was born with power to change our lives. All of us have seen seemingly ordinary people become superheroes. Why is this? Something happens in their lives that makes them suspend belief long enough to act unconsciously. When this happens, they are able to access this power and perform extraordinary feats. Our minds are a recording device. We store away everything we read, see, hear, or otherwise experience in our lives from before we come into world. During this time we also form opinions with use of this information and from influences of others. From opinions and beliefs come habits. Habits then become our life - just day after day habits! Have you ever tried to break a habit? It's not easy! That is because a habit is much easier to do than NOT do. To change a habit means you have to change your belief! Now we are back where we started. If there is something you truly want in your life, you can get it. From time I was a little boy, I wanted to be a sailor on a sailboat. I would tell everybody I was going to sail around world. Many people told me then I could not do that. What is funny is that many people today tell methe same thing although we built a sailboat and sailed 15,000 miles in seven years. My beliefs were (and are) very strong.

I snooted up my nose at it.My inner snob said, "Surely, anything that popular must be trash." But finally, my son dragged me to movie, and I fell in love with Harry Potter. I've had a lot of time to think about phenomenal success of stories like Harry Potter and Lord of Rings trilogy - and why these stories resonate so with me. It's not magic. It's not wizards and elves, hobbits and Hogwarts. It's not dazzling special effects. Those things are all wonderful. They add charm, magic and mystery. They're just ripping good fun! But real staying power of these stories lies in The Message. And it's same Message that runs like a whisper throughout all great literature - and, for that matter, not so great literature. The Message? Things are not as they seem. There's more to us - and our world - than meets eye. We are, indeed, magical! Living, as we do, in sunlight world of mundane reality, we forget who we are. We're afraid of our own shadows. Afraid to step out and spread our wings. We wrap ourselves in our fears and limitations and live, as Thoreau said, "lives of quiet desperation." And that's why Harry Potter stories and Tolkien's tales of hobbits and Middle Earth strike a chord with me. They remind me that I need not be afraid, that I have hidden powers and untapped reserves.
