It was Friday night in Great Falls, Montana, and I was on my way to pick up Josh Evin and Ben Krahn atrepparttar airport. Josh and Ben had come to skate underrepparttar 133109 Big Sky atrepparttar 133110 new 25,000 square foot park designed by Grindline (fine tuning by Shaggy in below zero temperatures earlier this year) and Tim Altec. First order of business was a session. Ben and Josh were lovingrepparttar 133111 park and drawing lines instantly. Asrepparttar 133112 sun set Josh stomped an ollie air overrepparttar 133113 hole ofrepparttar 133114 full pipe funnel tunnel. Inrepparttar 133115 interest of keeping my friends entertained with a bit of Montana night life we headed down torepparttar 133116 “Sip n’Dip” to watchrepparttar 133117 girls in mermaid outfits swim behind glass and have a couple of drinks.

Ben Krahn worked lines for miles with his usual casual style and smoothness. Ryan Simonetti originally from Great Falls blasted stale-fish nose bones, frigid airs, and tail grab nose grinds onrepparttar 133124 death box wall and threw down a couple stale-fish airs overrepparttar 133125 funnel tunnel gap. Krahn nailedrepparttar 133126 funnel tunnel gap with a big frontside ollie on his second attempt, and Josh workedrepparttar 133127 same gap overrepparttar 133128 opposite direction with method airs. CHOOSING A SELF DEFENSE / MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL: A PARENTS GUIDE

CHOOSING A SELF DEFENSE / MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL: A PARENTS GUIDE

“Daddy, I want to take Karate!” “Mommy, Jimmy onrepparttar bus hit me again today”

There are many reasons why parents want to sign their children up for Self Defense or Martial Arts classes. Once you have maderepparttar 133108 decision, now you are faced with many different options and questions. What style? How much does it cost? Is my child to young?

Martial Arts and Self Defense Styles

There are as many different styles of Martial Arts as there are religions inrepparttar 133109 world. You have probably heard of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, and even Aikido, but there are still numerous styles and offshoots ofrepparttar 133110 Major styles.

So what Style isrepparttar 133111 Best and what style should I choose?

In reality, it is this author’s opinion thatrepparttar 133112 style of Martial Arts your child will learn is not that important. What is important isrepparttar 133113 method of teaching and training that your child will undergo. With Martial Arts training your child should learn self-discipline, self-respect, and self-esteem, along withrepparttar 133114 confidence and ability to defend themselves.

The Instructor, (or Sensei) isrepparttar 133115 key. I suggest that all parents visit several locations with there children to observerepparttar 133116 Instructor at work. Make sure you visit a beginner’s class as well as an upper level class. The beginner’s class is where your child will start.

Doesrepparttar 133117 instructor’s personality and philosophy match your morals and ideals? Doesrepparttar 133118 class participate in any “Eastern Religious” practice that doesn’t match your faith? Do you want your child viewing this instructor as a role model? Most children will look up to their Martial Arts & Self Defense Instructors as role models and will be in awe of their skills and abilities. Make sure that this person who will be dealing with your children matches your values.

It is also important to view an upper level class. The beginner classes are usually very tame, andrepparttar 133119 teaching philosophy is tailored to a younger audience. However, repparttar 133120 olderrepparttar 133121 student is,repparttar 133122 “real” teaching and training methods are put into effect. You may feel comfortable with howrepparttar 133123 instructor “teaches”repparttar 133124 younger beginning students, but may not be comfortable with how they handlerepparttar 133125 older students.

Cost The majority of Martial Arts & Self Defense Locations (or Dojo’s) run their business on a membership basis. Customers must sign contracts, where they are obligated to pay for a certain time period to participate. The locations are run like a gym membership, you pay for a certain length of time and may participate as often as you desire.
