Grandparents! Help Your Grandkids Do Math!Written by Kenneth Williams
This may come as a surprise. But despite all advances in education, many kids still struggle in math class. Math is an important subject, yet many kids just don't "get it". Teachers can only devote a limited amount of personal attention to each student. And parents are so busy with their own work nowadays, they don't have time to help their children with school work. That's where YOU, grandparent, come in! Grandparents teach their grandchildren through example and play a role in encouraging them to be successful and set goals. Grandparents are naturally forgiving and patient, and children sense that. As a grandparent you can help right from time your grandkids are toddlers, by asking them questions involving numbers, and showing them how important math is to our lives: - Ask them number-based questions, like: "How many books do you want to read tonight?" - Or: "How many miles to grandma's house?" - Show them basic fractions by dividing groups of jelly beans into halves and quarters. - Bake cookies together and teach them how to measure ingredients. - Make something in wood shop and teach them how to use a ruler. The time you spend with your grandchild is a blessing for both of you. If you work with your grandchildren and teach them simple basics of math, they will develop a natural talent for it and move to head of class.

Most area rugs we see in market today are well-designed to cater to taste and commercial needs of modern society, and most of them are well-accepted in Western world. This is somehow different than origianl rugs that have been existing in region for thousands of years. The rug trading has a long history that can be traced back to fourteenth century, when Italian merchants introduced first pile carpets to Europe from Ottoman Empire. As European and American merchants' involvement into carpetmaking industry, patterns and style are more or less influenced by Western culture. Sizing is probably most important question you should think about. Ideally, best time to choose rug is when room is empty. You can set off your room around theme that rug renders and there is more choice in wall paper and furniture than there is in rug. However, in most cases, room is already filled with something, or you already have something in mind. This can make decision more complicated. After all, bear in mind that area rugs is not a solution for wall-to-wall floor covering. If you are thinking cover whole floor area, you may need to consider broadloom carpeting and use small colorful throw rugs as accents on top of it. To cover most floor area with a single piece of area rug, it's better to leave eighteen to twenty-four inches of bare floor at all four sides. This works as frames to beautiful pictures and can emphasize beauty of uniqueness of rug you've chosen.
