Golf Workouts Can Quickly Add Yards To Your Drives

Written by Mike Pedersen

I’m sure by now you’ve heard most ofrepparttar professional players; both men and women actively participate in golf workouts. It’s no secret. But why then do most amateur golfers ignore this? Is it because it seems like work? Or, doesrepparttar 133095 thought of actually breaking a sweat get you tired already?

Either way…the proof is inrepparttar 133096 bag. The number one player inrepparttar 133097 world, Vijay Singh, does his golf workouts allrepparttar 133098 way through Sunday of each tournament. Does it look like it’s hurting his game? I don’t think so. Back in 1997, a young, very athletic golfer came onrepparttar 133099 professional scene and blew everyone away. I think you know who I’m talking about.

Tiger took golf to another level. A real eye-opener forrepparttar 133100 veteran players who were hittingrepparttar 133101 19th hole after every round…andrepparttar 133102 last thought on their mind was “exercise”. What a wake-up call to be totally dominated by a player who was only 20 years old atrepparttar 133103 time.

How aboutrepparttar 133104 year Annika Sorenstam shot a 59 and totally dominatedrepparttar 133105 LPGA? Do you know what she attributes it to? Golf workouts! She hired a trainer and got serious about her fitness. And look what happened? She hasn’t looked back since. She just recently came out with an instruction book and devoted a chapter to golf workouts.

To my recollection, that’srepparttar 133106 first women’s instruction book to include golf workouts. Working out to playing better golf isn’t just forrepparttar 133107 guys; Annika has proved that. Now more LPGA players are working out to try and catch her, just likerepparttar 133108 guys did with Tiger.

How aboutrepparttar 133109 senior tour? Now players are realizing they can still make good money, even after they’ve turned 50 and can’t really compete withrepparttar 133110 young guys anymore. Withrepparttar 133111 money at stake, they too are all working out. This group of players both amateur and pro isrepparttar 133112 biggest demographic that needs itrepparttar 133113 most.

With age comes a decline in both flexibility and strength. Whenrepparttar 133114 body declines, repparttar 133115 swing goes right along with it. The result is a big loss in yardage, more mishits, and ballooning scores. The end result…frustration! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played with and received phone calls from older golfers who are just about ready to quitrepparttar 133116 game.

They are SO frustrated at this rapid decline, that golf’s not fun anymore. But there is hope. The answer? Get your body moving just a little better. How? By participating in golf workouts that focus on golf-specific strength AND flexibility. It’s amazing to see golfers in this age bracket dramatically improve their driving distance, accuracy and scores.

Desert Golf, A Walk on the Wild Side

Written by Joan Ewart

Desert golf, a walk onrepparttar wild side! Have you played desert golf in Arizona, Las Vegas, Reno, Palm Springs. Why play a traditional golf course when you can always do that at home?

Tighter fairways, a totally different environment treated in a totally different way. No set game inrepparttar 133094 desert, surprises at every turn, but whoever said golf was not exciting? Before 1983 and eco-sensitive considerations, most desert courses were grass and more grass, designed just likerepparttar 133095 ones in Ohio, Michigan and atrepparttar 133096 beach, but around 1983 when Jack Nicklaus teemed up with Lyle Anderson to do Desert Highlands (the home ofrepparttar 133097 first Skins Game) north of Scottsdale. They conceived what would becomerepparttar 133098 first "desert golf course.

Everyone talks about those desert golf courses - what do they mean? A desert golf course is one that is in keeping withrepparttar 133099 environment. Defined byrepparttar 133100 eco-sensitive natural plants and animals inrepparttar 133101 area. The maximum area that can be covered in grass is 90 Acres divided up between fairway and green. The transition areas are sand or dirt that separatesrepparttar 133102 grass fairways fromrepparttar 133103 desert. The desert is not considered a hazard and you can ground your club. There is forced carry - meaningrepparttar 133104 areas of vegetation that a shot must carry from fairway to tee. There are arroyos or "dry wash" areas that often cut throughrepparttar 133105 fairways. You will see critter warnings watch out for rattlesnakes, coyotes, and chollas( a very mean desert cactus, that reaches out and grabs you- it is called a "jumping cholla"). There is normally a 90 degree rule in effect, meaning carts must run perpendicular torepparttar 133106 cart path. (to preserverepparttar 133107 desert)...andrepparttar 133108 air is thinner andrepparttar 133109 ball goes farther! Lee Trevino sums it up pretty well (as usual) "it's like a voyage intorepparttar 133110 unknown".
