Four Steps to Confident CoachingWritten by David Wood
Four Steps to Confident Coaching Body of Article Have you ever felt unsure of yourself as a coach? Scared that you might not have an answer for someone? Worried you’ll give wrong advice? Concerned they’ll think you’re a fraud? The biggest difference I seem to make with new coaches I mentor is in area of confidence. Sure I help them with designing their unique coaching session, marketing and business set up. But their main block is often lack of confidence. What if you have – RIGHT NOW – much more to offer a client than you think? What if you could make a big difference to someone’s life right now –before you get your qualification? What if you could go out and get ten new clients after reading information in this article?! In CoachStart Manual™ I detail seven insights which will help you obtain confidence – right now. I’d like to give you first four of these insights here in this article. Here are some valuable things you can offer to a client – RIGHT NOW: 1. The way you listen Most people listen in “waiting for my turn to speak” mode. Or noticing if this is boring or entertaining. But coach listens with undivided attention. A coach listens from “Is this moving forward?” “Does this sound like what they really want?” “Are there any actionable steps to take?” Simply by both of you coming together to look for ways client can progress, they are getting something they don’t usually get from conversation. 2. Being there each week It’s amazing how much a person will get done just knowing there is someone to hold them accountable. They know next week you are going to ask them, “Did you do it?” Just by being there you are helping them discover what is important in their life. (It’s like having a running partner. Without partner there you may not run as far or even get out of bed. With a partner your attention is on running, and you run further, faster and with more fun!)

Entering Field Body of Article So you're considering a career as a life, business or corporate coach, but wondering what's best way to enter field? Do I need to do a training course? Do I need to get accredited? Where will I get clients, and do I have what it takes? Most coaches agree on best way to begin a coaching career: Work with someone who already is a coach! Simple eh? In other words, work a month or two with a Coach; someone who has already built type of business or career you want to have, and who can then help you do same. Only faster and more efficiently! Here are key steps: 1.Interview 2-3 coaches to find out more about career and lifestyle you would be getting into. They can tell you good and bad; how easy, or difficult it is, and ...... how they got started. 2.Hire a coach and experience coaching for yourself. But don't get coached on Becoming a Coach. Not just yet. Be coached on something else you want to achieve, or something you want to alter in your life. This will give you best feel for whether or not this is career for you. It's actually best training you can get. Training from a live course, teleclass or book is great. But there's no substitute for experience of personally being coached, and seeing how an experienced coach moves you forward. This will give you resources, insights, tools and support. It will also help you to build your coach network; other coaches you can call on for help and advice. We'll profile coach training schools in a later issue. For now, suffice it to say you should pick a school which has happy, successful coaches. Do you require face to face training, or want flexibility of teleclass (phone conference calls) training? And shop around - prices vary. For a list of training schools, visit www.becomeacoach.com
