Flatulence (intestinal gas) odor control for those who care!Written by Frank Morosky
As adults mature, prevalence of gas, a product of digestive process, often becomes more frequent. Uncontrollable gas release is becoming a growing problem for older adults, with socially embarrassing consequences. If a very conservative estimate of 5% of Americans over age of 45 have this problem to degree that they want to do something about it, that constitutes a group of over 14 million men and women seeking a solution. The average person expels gas 14 times every day. The amount of gas released ranges from as little as one cup to as much as one half gallon per day. Gas is made primarily of odorless vapors such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and sometimes methane. The unpleasant odor of flatulence comes from bacteria in large intestine that release small amounts of gases that contain hydrogen sulfide. Flatulence occurs when a food does not break down completely in stomach and small intestine. As a result, food makes it into large intestine in an undigested state. The body does not digest and absorb some carbohydrates (the sugar, starches, and fiber found in many foods) in small intestine because of a shortage or absence of certain enzymes. This undigested food then passes from small intestine into large intestine, where normal, harmless bacteria break down food, producing gases such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and, in about one-third of all people, methane. Eventually these gases exit through rectum. Foods that produce gas Certain foods produce more flatulence than others because they contain more indigestible carbohydrates than others. Beans are well-known gas producers. The beans pass through small intestine and arrive in large intestine without being digested, which causes flatulence to occur. Unfortunately, healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes (beans and peas) are often worst offenders. That's because these foods are high in fiber which is an indigestible cellulose. Fiber has many health benefits, including keeping your digestive tract in good working order, regulating blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and helping prevent heart attacks and other heart problems. But it can also lead to forming gas. Medical conditions that cause gas If you are "lactose intolerant," it means that you lack an enzyme (lactase) in your intestine. This is enzyme that breaks lactose apart into two sugar molecules so they can enter bloodstream. Without lactase, lactose passes undigested through stomach and small intestine. Once it arrives in colon, lactose meets up with billions of hungry bacteria that are happy to digest lactose. They produce a variety of gases, in much way that yeast produces carbon dioxide to leaven bread. There are an estimated 16 million diabetics in United States, and that many have difficulty in coping with or controlling their diabetes. Certain medical conditions such as Crohn’s Disease, Colitis, IBD, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Celiac Disease cause people to have excessive flatulence because of their impaired digestion. A diagnosis of IBS has been reported by 10 to 20% of adults in United States, and symptoms of IBS are responsible for over 3 million yearly visits to physicians. IBS exhibits a predominance in women, with females representing over 70% of IBS sufferers.

As you are reading this, take a few seconds to look at yourself and reflect. Just become aware of five senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.See connection with your immediate surroundings through each sense in turn. Feel connection to planet Earth beneath your feet. Feel life force come into your body with each inbreath, sense beat of your heart, passage of time from day to night to day again and flow of seasons. You are alive whether you think you are or not. Some people may say that life has passed me by, but life is in every part of you from beat of your heart to flow of air in your lungs at each level of your physical body. Take a second to consider basic layers that a good general knowledge will tell you exist within you. Become aware of your whole body. Allow your mind and imagination to visualise what it would look like if you could see organs of body. The cells that make up organs and molecules that make up cells. See atoms that make up molecules and see fine particles that make up an atom. See these small particles going into and coming out of silence of pure nothing, like an empty void or a vacuum that also feels full of all possibilities. At same time just allow your mind to become aware of field of energy that surrounds your physical body. And again use your imagination to see field of energy that surrounds each organ, each cell, each molecule, each atom and each particle. With your feelings feel silence that exists in void, feel potential and feel love. Just allow your imagination to look at one atom in your body to see all electrons spinning around nucleus. Change your vision and imagine – what it would look like to stand on one electron. Looking out into darkness at all other positive nuclei radiating energy! Would it look like a person standing on planet Earth looking out into sky on a dark night at all other stars of universe around them? That person may say, I wish I knew if there were any other life in universe on any of these other electrons, not realising that they are all apart of themselves. But they had just narrowed down their vision to such a small part of themselves that they had lost sight of whole. ~ Life is constantly flowing from deep within your heart outwards. You are a spiritual person looking out at world around you through all these five senses. Your body is vehicle that allows you to experience life as a human through your thoughts, words and deeds. Your feelings are what connect you back to yourself. These layers of energy that surround each layer of your physical existence form your consciousness. Note depth of consciousness as you drop down layers of your physical existence. Then watch your consciousness expand as you drop down into void, that field of silence like a vacuum that connects entire universe together. Just know that all layers of matter come out of this silence. It is meeting point between each human, animal, plant and physical matter.
