Essential Baby Clothes And AccessoriesWritten by Catherine Olivia
Leave cute outfits to shower guests – these are things you need.
Having a baby is a time of combined joy and stress for most people. Nothing compares to joy that a mother feels when she’s holding her new baby for those first few days after bringing little tyke home or that of proud father showing off pictures of infant to his friends and family. Unfortunately there is also nothing quite like stress in worrying that everything is going to be all right and that family is properly prepared for their joyous new addition.
New parents often fall into trap of being unprepared when it comes to suitable clothing for their baby. In months and weeks prior to mother’s due date couple will be preparing for baby’s arrival by setting up baby’s room, buying necessary items like a crib, playpen, changing table, walker, and, of course baby clothes. The problem introduces itself when parents (and this usually comes from Mom’s side) focus too much on purchasing “cutsie” baby outfits and ignoring basic essentials that babies will need.
Cotton bodysuits, absorbent baby blankets, bibs, and baby booties are items that a new parent can never have enough of. Babies are messy simply by their nature. For all cuteness and adorability that they possess they are essentially little drooling, slobbering, spewing, waste producing machines for about first year or so of their lives. As such, their clothes get messy quickly and often. So often that a parent may find herself changing her baby’s clothing almost as often as she changes baby’s diaper – sometimes more.

Every year top designers unveil their latest fashion creations for little people of world. This doesn’t mean fashion designs for Warwick Davises and Billy Bartys of world, nor those who don’t make in a year what Paris Hilton leaves for a tip after lunch at Sardi’s. The little ones that fashion gurus design for are infants and designer baby clothes, as bizarre as concept seems, grow more popular each year. Despite fact that child will outgrow garments in very little time, well to do parents love to ooh and aah over fashionable items designed by likes of Christian Dior, Kimora Lee, and others. The top fashion houses produce body suits, bibs, booties, and bonnets that are soft to touch, beautiful to behold, cost many times more than typical Kmart baby outfit and are just waiting to be urpped on by a baby suffering from colic.
Perhaps best known line of designer wear for infants comes from Christian Dior. Dubbed Baby Dior, line includes items like sweet 100% cotton Dior baby body suit with pink or blue snaps, Dior teddy bear logo on chest, and a price tag of $55.00 from E Luxury dot com. The site is nice enough to point out that parents who find this item attractive may also like $115.00 Baby Dior hooded towel.
Leave it to Rap pioneer and Def Jam records founder Russell Simmons to innovate a way to bring a bit of bling into nursery. To promote his Phat Farm line of men’s hip-hop styles, Simmons had a number of small tee shirts designed with legend “Baby Phat” printed on them. The shirts were donned by female celebrities and models and garnered quite a bit of attention. The Baby Phat line was born and Simmons made his wife Kimora Lee line’s creative director. Baby Phat produces clothes for young girls (sorry, make that “girlz”) from their teens all way down to infancy. Baby Phat baby wear includes tees priced from $11.00 to $18.00 and matching outfits ranging in price from $34.00 to $42.00.
