The TKTS booth in South Street Seaport sells discount tickets to Broadway Shows day of show. New York Party Shuttle Tours will take you to booth and allow you time to purchase tickets. What's great about this location is that it has significantly less traffic than popular Times Square location, with exact same available tickets and deals! The TKTS booth at South Street Seaport (at corner of Front and John Streets) is one of great little-known bargains in city. Because of its location far from Great White Way, there is seldom a line, certainly never as long as one found at Times Square. Like uptown version, tickets are available at 25%, 35% and 50% of full price (plus a $3 service charge per ticket) on day of performance. The booth opens at 11:00 am and for those interested in matinee tickets, they can be purchased day BEFORE. Wednesday matinee tickets are available on Tuesday, Saturday matinee tickets are available on Friday, and Sunday matinee and evening performances (yes, there are some plays that perform on Sunday evening) are sold on Saturday. You cannot get this service uptown. Therefore, on Sundays, this booth is closed. Tickets must be purchased with either cash or traveler's checks.
| | Fascinating facts about the Empire State BuildingWritten by Tom Schmidt
One of most popular attractions on our itinerary is Empire State Building. Built in 1931, building has 102 floors and stands 1,250 feet tall. It is currently tallest tower in New York City and 2nd tallest building in United States. A grandiose lobby galvanized with marble, granite, nickel and limestone is just start of this amazing building. With 22 miles of telephone wire and enough elevator cable to stretch from Manhattan to Baltimore, one is marveled by building’s size, height, and history. The history of building is a wonder in itself. During great depression, it was decided to build Empire State Building in an attempt to create jobs and cause a catalyst for American economy. It turns out they needed 7 million man hours for construction to complete project. The most amazing fact is time in which it took to complete Gotham City’s new tallest tower. In just 18 fast-tracked months, Empire State building was completed. By comparison, new World Trade Center/Freedom Tower with 110 floors will take 5 years to complete. Construction on The Empire State Building was around clock 24 hours a day. They opted to fast-track building’s construction because they really wanted to prove to world that American workforce and spirit was strong and citizens should not give up hope on America.
