Data Backup Solution: Why you need a backup plan in place – Part 1

Written by Joe Duchesne

Is a data backup solution part of your computer plans? Do you have a way to protect yourself if something goes wrong with your computer or data? Computers are a useful part of our lives but we don't always protect ourselves from their loss be it fire, theft or hardware failure.

We often don't consider how fragile our computer data really is. Do you keep sensitive information on your computer that you would be upset if you lost it? Not sure? Consider this. If I told you that I was going to format your hard drive right now and you will lose all ofrepparttar information on your computer, would you be ready? Or would you need to get a few files first... If you are inrepparttar 149043 second group, chances are you don't have a proper data backup solution in place to help you handle disasters.

What happens if your computers are stolen?

I recently had a business colleague of mine who's office was robbed and who had all of his computers stolen. He naturally felt helpless and victimized overrepparttar 149044 situation. What was especially frustrating was that he thought he had takenrepparttar 149045 proper measures to secure his office. He had a good security system in place, had secured his premises and yet they were still able to cut his phone lines, disable his alarm and have their way in his office. Don't think a computer theft can happen to you? You know what? It can happen to anyone and you don't have to own a business.

Build Your Own Computer

If I cand do it so can you Written by: George W. Cannata

I’m eighty-one years old and I bought my first computer six years ago. When I bought it I hardly knew how to turn it on. I consider myself still a Newbie as I’ve barely scratchedrepparttar surface of computer technology. I have succesfully built about a dozen computers for family friends and myself. I even sold a couple of them.

Building a computer doesn’t require a high degree of technical skill, however it does require a little mechanical aptitude. Building may not berepparttar 148898 proper term, assembling would be more appropriate. That’s actually what you do, you assemlerepparttar 148899 right components then install an operating system which isrepparttar 148900 only phase ofrepparttar 148901 project that requires any technical ability.

Building your own has several advantages, for one you can save some money. But don’tgetrepparttar 148902 idea that you can sell them at a profit. There’s too much competition atrepparttar 148903 low end. Allrepparttar 148904 major manufacturers have budget models, most of which you can buy with substantial rebates and good warrantees

You have a number of options, you can build from scratch or you can build from a barebones kit. I recommendrepparttar 148905 latter for your first attempt. You also haverepparttar 148906 choice of using all new components or using some recycled parts.

If you have a reasonably up to date PC that died ther are probably a number of parts that you can re-use, and you can buy a lot of good used components from eBay and other online sources. Refurbished parts are a good option.

The first thing you have to do is determine your requirements. If you’re going to just surfrepparttar 148907 Internet, do e-mail and a bit of printing, go forrepparttar 148908 cheapest you can buy. You will still have plenty of capacity for simple tasks.

Next you have to decide whether to go with a barebones kit or do a complete build. Kits are recommended because generally that’srepparttar 148909 most economical way to go, and it’s definitely easier. Installing a mother- board can get dicey forrepparttar 148910 uninitiated. There are a lot of little wires to connect that can give you greif if they aren’t inrepparttar 148911 right place.

Barebones kits come in many iterations. The most basic consists of a case, motherboard and power unit. Some have on board video and audio cards, others include modems and cable connections and some even sport keyboards, mice and speakers. Readrepparttar 148912 specs carefully because some of thes components are expensive to buy separately.
