The recent United States Congress vote to liftrepparttar ban on Americans traveling to Cuba will openrepparttar 133654 flood gates for hundreds of thousands of individuals eager to take advantage of what is becoming increasingly known asrepparttar 133655 "forbidden paradise", whererepparttar 133656 Cohiba Lanceros Cigar andrepparttar 133657 much vaunted Havana Club rum, vie for popularity against a backdrop of some ofrepparttar 133658 greatest architectural masterpieces ofrepparttar 133659 New World.

These historical buildings are not only of immense importance torepparttar 133660 Cubans, but they are recognized as one ofrepparttar 133661 greatest attractions inrepparttar 133662 Communist led nation, apart from miles and miles of pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, and a warm and friendly people. Despiterepparttar 133663 ban on American citizens going to Cuba, an estimated 200,000 circumventedrepparttar 133664 prohibition in 1999 by traveling via Canada, Cancun, The Bahamas and Montego Bay, and althoughrepparttar 133665 figures for 2000 are not yet out, it will certainly be higher thanrepparttar 133666 previous year.

Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota said it was important to make "this incremental move" to liftrepparttar 133667 travel ban, imposed 40 years ago onrepparttar 133668 Communist ruled Island. The measure has to passrepparttar 133669 Senate, which is not assured at this particular time. The measure to liftrepparttar 133670 travel ban passedrepparttar 133671 House 240-186, with 67 Republicans and 173 Democrats backing it. As expected, repparttar 133672 move was met by an immediate rejection byrepparttar 133673 Bush administration. A White House announcement that it would not accept any easing of sanctions. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said President George W. Bush will not supportrepparttar 133674 new proposal, even though there is growing sentiment in Congress to offer Americans a chance to see Cuba for themselves, while some conservative Republicans argue thatrepparttar 133675 ban amounts to an infringement onrepparttar 133676 right of U.S. citizens. Conservative Republican Jeff Flake of Arizona, who sponsoredrepparttar 133677 travel ban repeal inrepparttar 133678 House, said Americans should be free to travel wherever they want. "What we've done is to erect our own Berlin Wall, preventingrepparttar 133679 free travel of Americans. It's time to tear it down," said Rep. William Delahunt. Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque describedrepparttar 133680 vote as "constituting a symbol, a proof ofrepparttar 133681 majority feeling in U.S. society."

On our drive along I-71 torepparttar Mohican State Park Resort and Conference Center in North-Central Ohio, near Loudonville, dark clouds loom inrepparttar 133653 distance. The storm passed ahead of Leroy and I, although a chilly wind follows in its wake, stirring uprepparttar 133654 earthy scents ofrepparttar 133655 forest to greet us when we arrive atrepparttar 133656 Resort. Fall temperatures forrepparttar 133657 Perrysville- Loudonville area in Ohio normally ranges inrepparttar 133658 upper 50s at night. Inrepparttar 133659 winter when guests visitrepparttar 133660 Mohican Memorial State Forest adjacent torepparttar 133661 park to cruiserepparttar 133662 snowy trails on their snowmobiles temperatures drop to a high 20 degrees.

A bit tired, we can’t resist slipping into our jackets and taking a brisk walk to admirerepparttar 133663 bright moon rising inrepparttar 133664 sky over Pleasant Hill Lake belowrepparttar 133665 Mohican State Park Resort. The 6,000-acre Mohican State Park and Forest is peaceful except forrepparttar 133666 rustling of tree limbs andrepparttar 133667 distant hoot of an owl. For a brief moment I imaginerepparttar 133668 Delaware Indians huddled around a camp fire after a day of hunting before they were driven fromrepparttar 133669 area duringrepparttar 133670 War of 1812. The Mohican State Park, Resort, and Camp Grounds are packed throughoutrepparttar 133671 year with those who love hunting, fishing on Pleasant Hill Lake, and camping at one of 123 sites inrepparttar 133672 park. Leroy draws me back from my thoughts to retire to our recently renovated and spacious guestroom where we relax with a cup of hot tea on a private balcony.

Inrepparttar 133673 morningrepparttar 133674 lobby is filled with aroma of fresh baked muffins. While we dined on our selections of fresh fruits and baked goods fromrepparttar 133675 wonderful buffet atrepparttar 133676 Bromfield Restaurant outsiderepparttar 133677 windowrepparttar 133678 squirrels and blue jays shared a meal. Afterwards, Leroy challenges me to a quick game of pool while a family tests their skills at table tennis. Of course, he wins, but there’s always later when I’m sure to win at checkers, chess, or a number of other games available for entertainment inrepparttar 133679 lobby. For now we’re headed out to admirerepparttar 133680 fall foliage, shop, and catch a parade in Loudonville on our first day out.

Fall leaves skitter acrossrepparttar 133681 road while we drive throughrepparttar 133682 beautiful forests and over a scenic river below a covered bridge. On our way to Loudonville we findrepparttar 133683 historic Pine Run Grist Mill where festivals are held annually. There is also a wonderful assortment of outdoor activities like horse back riding, canoeing, and go-carts for our family to enjoy on our summer camping trip next year.

Ahead, we spotrepparttar 133684 cars and crowds headed toward downtown Loudonville forrepparttar 133685 parade. While waiting forrepparttar 133686 floats and bands to pass we chat with our new friend, Paula. Almost like magic, she waves her hand and who should appear walking downrepparttar 133687 sidewalk . . . Sylvester, repparttar 133688 cat.
